Right.
This is the thing. Mr Funky was thinking of getting me an iPod for my Xmas but Im not sure if I will be able to use it to its full potential.
I don't have a PC at home but I do have a G5 at work that I use all day every day.
I don't go anywhere very often on my own in order to listen to it, apart from walking home from work and going out running.
Im not actually sure what the benefits of an ipod is compared to a portable CD player.
Can someone give me a reeeally simple description of an Ipod and all its functions to help me decide whether or not it would be a waste of money?

Sounds like you should get an iPod Nano rather than a full size one. They're tiny, will integrate perfectly with iTunes on your G5 at work, and with 2gb you'll have about 1000 songs to go running with. It will be loads lighter than your cd player, won't skip, and you'll have the equivalent of 100 CDs in your pocket no matter where you go :)

If you usually use your portable cd then you'll find the ipod really usefull. The nano one is also a little design jewel

I think the 2GB will be fine for your needs and it's quite a bit cheaper - £130 or thereabouts - however, add a wall socket attachment for the charger (as standard they will only charge from the firewire socket on your Mac/PC) and a case. So it'll be more like £180 all told.

And don't forget the plugg adaptator, if I'm not wrong the whole pack only includes an usb or firewire charger, if you buy the plugg adaptator you don't need your mac to charge the batteries. :D

That's what I meant about the wall socket ;) :) If you want a dock to stand your iPod up in, that's another £30 too :?

They did a recall on a bunch of the first run - should be ok now re: cracking. They do scratch, but you can buy little plastic films that stick on the screen to protect them if it really bothers you.

Oops :oops: :lol:

Mark I have the first mini one, it included plug addaptator, that thing to put the ipod in your arm, that thing to put the ipod in your belt and both firewire and usb charger. The second one, the brighter coloured, only included usb charger and headphones... Guess how Apple managed to low the price :roll:

Coolest feature is the LE Organic (sp?) display which makes the display appear on the casing. 6Gb for £160, 20 Gb for £199. From what I hear, sound quality is fractionaly better than Ipod, but battery life wins hands down. Specs anyone?
