Any I-pod specialists out there?

Stupidly I left mine in m gym bag in the boot of my car for a couple of months and when I went to use it it was dead, I thought it was just the battery so have charged it but it still won't switch on? It's just not responding at all? It's nearly 2 years old so no warranty left.

Can anyone help?

Did you charge it on USB/computer or by plugging into a wall socket?

Sometimes doing the latter will put things right...

for the last fews months mine hasnt been working, I plug it into the wall via the charger, it makes a few funny fizzes and cracking noises then I get the unhappy ipod face on the display.....................................doesnt sound good does it??

Fizzes and cracks? Id throw it out the window at the first opportunity - danger danger!

I've used the USB in my laptop, I don't have a wall adaptor but my old man does for his I-phone so I'll borrow that and see if it works! Thanks

I have to do that regularly with mine!

tried it Johnny, its the first thing I do at any sign of trouble and until now has done the trick. Battery eh?? how much we talking? am I better biting the bullet and getting anew one? im well over my 30gb capacity anyway and was toying with the idea of a 160gb model?

Ok just had a quick shufty on ebay and quick question, whats the difference between 6th, 7th 7 8th gen? Im presuming it's the age and year they were produced?

Well, yes and no.

They announce a major re-design of each line (classic, shuffle, nano, touch) every year to 18 months. As soon as they do, that's the next "generation". The gens of each model don't always match-up time-wise with the others.

The classic is somewhere around 8th gen. Nano is on 5th, I think. Shuffle on 4th. Touch on 2nd.

(edit: just checked. Classic on 6th, Nano 5th, Shuffle 3rd, Touch 3rd)

that would concur with what ebay is saying, is the classic best for my needs? ie just a super capacity mp3 player for my ever increasing library?

Yep. Sounds like the Classic is best for you. It's got the biggest capacities of the bunch. 160gb in the latest one, I think.

I prefer the Nano because it's the most portable full-service model. It carries a good enough selection to provide some variety. My whole collection wouldn't fit on the biggest classic anyway.
