intelligent humour or irony gone too far?

Allegedly demonstrations are likely to take place at this do on Fri.

Not sure how I feel as I'm sure the intention is to be provocative rather than offend...and they've achieved that.

I'm certainly not offended by it...but sit on the fense in thinking that anger isn't necessarily the best cause.

There's not enough anarchy in the world tho - bring back the spirit of the 80s...it brings about change and gets people talking does it not?

Will black people attend this event? Of course they will!

Thoughts? :?

hmm I think if it was a white face on there then i'm sure many would say its racist because they appear to be inviting white people only. Though it would most likely be middle class white persons leading the complaints...! As it stands I'm not particularly offended by it but it could be interpreted as discouraging 'non-black' people from attending.

I think that media coverage of racism and the goverments surrounding policies actually do more harm than good. The general media is anti-racism on the surface but still plays the race card to spin up a better story. I find that race and religion is often needlessly mentioned if the subject is from certain communities.

rant over :)

Well, I agree that the media often masks its inherent racism with supposed outrage at racism. That's a given.

I don't know the back-story about this advert and the party involved, nor do I understand exactly whom the organizers hoped to attract with this ad, but at face value I find it sad. Not so much offensive, as just plain sad.

I'd love it if someone put on a gay night called, 'kill the faggots'!

To me, that would be turning homophobia on its head and claiming it back.

Nooo you're missing the point! I'm not advocating killing queers or racism - I'm just saying it's fun to make fun of the seriousness of it when you're on the receiving end.

Better than a victim mentality any day.

...and because the name of this event is ambiguous and the promoter is blatantly doing it to get tongues wagging I think it's kind of ok.

So it would be alright if the person who designed the flyer is black?

As a hetrosexual white male your theory cuts down my comedy options.

:o:o

Brent: If he´s not offended?

Office bird: So it´s only black people who are allowed to be offended by racism?

The motivations for anyone to write Nigger on a flyer, in all fairness, makes them an utter, utter unmitigated ****er; whether it's Nick Griffin with it's more obvious connotations, or Tarquin from Cambridge being post-modernist-ironic-****-****.

And that's the bottom line.

No - anybody with the right intention.

I'm not going to apologise on behalf of them - I didn't promote the thing! 8O

Say what you want about the g__...I generally think it's quite amusing...but if meant seriously it's almost impossible to take it personally as it says so much more about the perpetrator than the person in question.

I won't be seeing you there then? 8O

(I'm not actually going by the way)

Actually I think it matters quite a lot who says it. Take for example the "running of the Jews" in the Borat film.

If Sacha Baron Cohen wasn't Jewish I think that would be pretty hard to get away with.

Btw, festive greeting to Rachel too. Missed that on the email yesterday.
Thanks mate. She's in England while I'm on the other side of the world however. Excuse me while I go slit my wrists.

:(:(

Regards to you and yours btw.

Haven't seen Borat.

I hate political correctness - it's more about tip toeing than being honest...I just think everyone's alright really.

As long as anybody's intentions are pure then they can do what the hell they want in my world. If people are totally ignorant and stupid with this theory then it will bite them on the bum.

I believe it's notoriously difficult to establish what's in a wo/man's heart for certain.

The effect of statements or actions however is easier to discern.
