just out of curiosity, is there anyone on here thats into rock, as opposed to dance?

i mean i like dance, and its preferable to go clubbing to dance music, but are there places in San Antonio that play indie/rock music?
i heard The Bravery are playing Ibiza in July...

they did homelands didnt they??

i like the bravery, remind me of devo, and a bit joy division, theres an obvious crossover with a lot of indie bands & dance!! ;)

yeah there is, certainly more so than in years before.

like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, The Strokes, etc.
rock music to dance to. and alot of new bands try to get an electro feel to there sound aswell.

homelands??? im not sure, not been to Ibiza before, dont know what the places are called, and when people are playing there.

"...believe me Natalie...listen Natalie, listen...there's no time for survival left...the time is now...cause this might be...your last chance...to disco, oh-oh..."

what a song. 8)

There is a place in San Antonio that plays indie/ rock. Can't remember the name of it, though. I have very little time for the likes of The Bravery and The Killers. They all sound the same to me, pushing that sort of hip American thing that became dull with The Strokes. Best new(ish) indie/ rock band would have to be Bloc Party. Oh, the LCD Soundsystem album is good too - lots to dance to there.

Yup and cracking stuff it is too. :D

I used to be really into guitar stuff, but now it's more dance and chill-out. Become quite critical of some of the boring bands that are around now. Of course, if it's quality guitar music I'll still give it a listen. Looking forward to getting my review copy of the Magic Numbers (also on the CBs album) record. 8)

Ditto, like Razorlight and Kasabian too. Heading to T in the Park this year which, as always, has a fantastic line-up. :D

yeah like both razorlight & kasabian!!

kings of leon, black rebel also rock!!!!

prime example of cross-over is lcd sound system, mad little album that is!!

But are all these new bands as good as the bands that were around 10 years ago (and are in most cases still going): Radiohead, Primal Scream, Suede, Spiritualized?

I'm starting to sound like a grandad now. ;)

primal scream are the nuts man!! even better now mani plays da bass, but even there a crossover again, used to be produced by david holmes!!

radiohead lost their way after ok computer, spiritualised...havent they split...again???

This is the place you need :

Indie Rock Club in the West End

Ground Zero is the ONLY rock and indie club in San Antonio. Founded in 1981 this club was called 'Hard Rock Cafe' from 1991 - 1998 it was called 'The Rock' and in 1998 it chenged it's name to 'GROUNDZERO' The club has changed name, but still has kept it's same friendly atmosphere and music policy

SITUATION

Calle Santa Inés, 3B, at The entrance to the Westend of San Antonio

I think Spiritualized are still together. I'm sure they're playing some festival this year, maybe Glastonbury. One of their songs is definitely on the CD free with Q (meant to be a guide to this year's festivals). It's possible they just disappeared off the radar a bit, as the last album Amazing Grace (?) wasn't as good as previous stuff.

I still like Radiohead's post OK Computer output - a bit more electronic and experimental. Thank God they didn't regress; one Coldplay is enough. ;)

Yeah, that's it, in the west end and not hard to find. I think I tried it out of curiosity last year, but wasn't overly impressed. Maybe it was quiet because I was there in June. ;)

spiritualized have a new album out this autumn....

i was an indie kid in my misguided youth, and still love radiohead, verve, stone roses, primals, et al but the whole nu-britpop movement leaves me cold. apart from the killers, who are kinda fun, i think the bravery, kasabian, bloc party et al are a load of boring, derivative toss. [/twopence]
