IMPORTANT

No

Only traffic data such as the time, duration and destination of calls would be kept, not the content of communications.

Storm in a teacup IMHO

and how will they manage to sort through all of this?
450million euro citizens, making an average of 10 phone calls each a day
yeah goodluck!
its like trying to arrest people for illegal downloading!

I imagined it wasn't the content of communicatins
Where shall I sing

Thing is, it's only a matter of time before actual data is logged, including what websites you visit etc. It's like letting the post office read your mail (like that's ever stopped 'em before the thieving scumbags!)

Paddy, you will find in this forum lots of members who will consider it a great idea.

For me, it's first step to 1984

I think 1984 is inevitable I mean with the way the world is going now
communication technology, spy wear, satelites, etc..
the governments have always wanted to rule over its citizens
since the early times they have kept an eye on us.. and no its even more and more, with cameras, internet, phones, satelites, 1984 will come soon!
but with that will come a rebellion and a great war which will let the governments know the people are the ones who make the world! dont f*** with us!!
and then we will be left to start again! of course we will not be around to pick up any of the pieces! hahhaha

Probably one of the reasons they caught the London Bombers so quickly...

Just to add a bit of balance to the debate.......

They caught Madrid bombers in less than a week and the data registration here is only allowed if a judge ask for it

But that's really the big dilemma, isn't it?

Balancing the need for modern methods of law enforcement with our desire for some level of privacy and fear (real or imagined) that the world predicted in 1984 is fast upon us (though 20+ years behind the Orwellian schedule!)

Do any of you sincerely believe they don't do all of this already, anyway?

(Albeit maybe with court order for most cases)

Of course not, but we can annoy a bit if we disagree, don't you think so?
