I'm congratulating myself as I'm writing these words

Weighing myself today, I saw something I havn't seen in about 2 years- the scale said "239." I havn't weighed less than 240 in two years! I topped out at 282 last year, in case you're wondering. I went vegan for a week as a clensing ritual and wound-up loosing 11 pounds in a week. I'm also exersizing- it's very important to exersize if you want to keep muscle mass being a vegan- but still, I'm feeling clearer-of-head, my skin is looking better and I lost weight- IN ONLY A WEEK'S TIME! Just imagine if if keep this up!

Now, it is important to remeber being a Vegan it is harder to get some nutrients- Calcium, B vitamins and Protein to name the big ones- but all that means is one has to be a bit more creative in eating- Beans and rice together make a perfect protein. The average omnivoric human gets their calcium from dairy. You gotta remeber, those herbevores we get milk from got their calcium from somewhere. Leafy vegetables, carrots and green peas contain a nice amount too. Even one orange contains 50 mg of calcium! B vitamins are harder- Tofu and multivitamins are about the only way to get a good amount. Red Bull contains a ton of B's (80% of your B12 and 250% of your B6) but I believe those B's are derived from milk.

Anyone else vegan and want to help me decide if this lifestyle change is right for me?

I'm a vegetarian. I did a period of raw vegan foods 2 years ago, which was great but too much work, so I'm partly back to cooked foods now.

I know lots about food and nutrition, just ask if there is something you wanna know.

How many different flavours are there in a bag of jelly tots?

Jelly tots don't fall under the category of food nor nutrition, so sorry :P

8O 8O

No cooked food? I don't think I could handle that!

Actually it wasn't a problem at all, since I love my veggies and fruit. The problem was just that it's not sustainable unless you bring your own foods everywhere you go. Too much an effort for me.

Wow, that is extreme vegan. Basically I want to know how can I get my B vitamins in a meal form without animal.

Also, a personal question...

uh...

How can I say this nicely...

Do you fart a lot? Please, I'm not trying to be sick or funny here, I'm being serious. It all started a few days after I went vegan, I think it's because of all the bean products (soy, garbanzos, etc.) im eating and it's starting to irratate me just how much I'm cutting. I never have to this extent before, it's unnatural and rather disgusting. I've lost a grand total of 13 lbs in 9 days and I'm feeling better than ever, but every 10-20 minutes or so I have to let one go or I'll burst. I can't stand it. It's all good fun when I'm around my brothers and male buddies, in fact I kinda like it then :D but today I was talking to the girl I dig at school and all of a sudden I felt one comming on. Here I am trying to keep my cool allready because she's such a great chick and here I am trying to hold one in. I'm glad she realized she was late for her class and left.

Do you mean B12? True that it's not found in vegetable source in large quantaties, but there are some facts:
- it would take years for your B12 reserves to be depleted so if this veganism is just a phase you are going through, you don't need to worry
- B12 is in fact not a "normal" vitamin, but it is produced by bacteria in your gut. So take care of your gut with probiotics!
- also meat eaters get B12 deficiency, has to do with the absorption in the gut
- eggs have lots of B-family vitamins so try free range organic eggs if you are not completely strictly vegan
- last option: supplements.

I don't eat much beans at all, they do produce a lot of gas. Lay off them for the ozon layer's sake!! :P
You don't need them as a vegan. Just eat a large variety of fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds and you'll be fine :)
