Ibiza's future

Hi everybody,

What do you think about the new Hard Rock Hotel? Are still enough rooms in Playa d'en Bossa for 'normal clubbers' or are they moving to Croatia? What if Bahamas (and even Palm Beach) will turn into another 'schicki micki' hotel? With all these concerts of Ushuaia and now Hard Rock, i think there is too much concurrence especially for the smaller, cooler bars in this area (Bora Bora, Sands, …) Can Ibiza keep its spirit with this 'new' VIP culture?

I'm pretty sure prices for PDB shot up a couple of years ago, Spotlight probably the experts on that. Figueretas is a good base, its actually really handy, Ibiza Town and PDB both very close and return boat/catamaran to Formentera for 19€ ish. I found parking to be a pain though. Staying at Lux Mar last September, theres a big car park along at the end but it was pretty much always full. We had to park up Puig des Molins, which was a pain in the jacksay.

Just becuase HRH has opened i'm quite sure all the hotels that were there previously haven't closed down so I'm more than sure there are enough hotels for 'normal clubbers'
I don't get what the big fascination is with Croatia and it's clubbing scene, there hardly is one. Yes they have alot of festivals, but there have always been European festivals that people have attended as well as Ibiza.

The whole Ibiza spirit is still going strong, there is just an additional VIP culture. Im sure 90% of the regulars on here quite happily return each year and still go to the smaller beach bars, club events etc and not even worry about the 'VIP' culture and still have a great time.

That's one of the main reasons why I never stay there. It's easier parking on streets in the West End than Figueretas and very few hotels have parking on site (those which do are usually very expensive). Ibiza Town is on another level too (unless you park miles away from Dalt Vila). It only makes sense to stay in either if you don't want your own transport, but if you are fine with that then both are very good bases. Otherwise by the time you've found a spot to park you could have driven to Calo d'es Moro, stowed the car keys and been sat watching the sunset with a Mojito !

I'm with you here, I found the Croatian clubbing scene quite depressing, almost non-existent. I also didn't like the atmosphere in Croatia, it was quite socially restrictive and no where near as liberal as Ibiza. It's also starting to get rather commercialised and expensive.

Croatia has nothing on Ibiza. The Ibiza spirit can't be matched!!

I've never been to Croatia, you just hear a lot about it. I've just visited the site 'ibiza-voice' where i found this:

What do you think about this article? I think that you can't even compare Ibiza to festivals, because it's a different context. Why should people stop coming to Ibiza only because they can go to festivals? Ok, the price of clubs and drinks could be a reason, but that's it, i don't know if i can agree with this. Of course Ibiza is not the only party capital any more, but i think it is still one of the most important places for electronic music. And nowadays commercialisation is almost everywhere, ibiza is just going through this and i think that in other 'big' places it's not that different.

What are your opinions?

I've been to Croatia as well. No where close to ibiza, or many other party places for that matter (gorgeous as hell though). I don't know who is hyping this up as the next Ibiza. The Island is a nice size, but partying is done in such a small area. Novalja and Zrce beach. I really enjoyed the place otherwise. large groceries, cheap accommodations, and cheap drinks. This is not, I repeat, this is not a 24 hour party destination. Their nightlight is going to need some serious work, before they can step to the likes of Salvador, Tel Aviv, and of course Ibiza.
