Mainland spain and majorca and canaries, Cyprus, turkey and greece are all cheaper than Ibiza. (i´ve been to all recently)

Agreed natural beauty does compare well.

I agree that there are lots of better beaches i didn´t mention and there is a great vibe here but the original point i am trying to make is what has ibiza got that will attract the tourists that other med destinations haven´t and i´m still not convinced that the general tourist will come for the hippy, bohemian vibe.

"I'm sure if you try to find out you'll finally get lots of reasons to get back to Ibiza" I actually own an apartment here and live here 5-6 months a year but the reason i live here is partly due to the party scene.

Unfortunatly i will lose the argument with friends who say ibiza hasn´t got much to attract mainstream tourism to the island other than the party scene as so far other than a hippy vibe no one has sugested anything that sets ibiza apart from any other holiday destination.

Menorca, have you ever been there?

It's lovely and can be compared to Ibiza in many aspects.
Prices are similar to Ibiza but it's impossible to find a flight or a decent place to stay in high season.
It atracs lots of young people looking for relaxed, sunny holidays and lots of national tourism mostly with lots of money. The hippy bohemian vibe is still there aswell. My dad's friend was a hippy and he moved to Menorca in the 70's and he is still there. You can't find anyone more hippy than him.

So, I wonder, if Menorca is always fully booked why wouldn't be different with a free-clubs Ibiza?

And it's not about what is different here, actually as you said all med resorts can be compared but it gives you the clue: people wants sea, sun and sand and that's something Ibiza has.

If you are here because the party scene doesn't mean that everyone is here for the party scene. Actually, if you leave Ibiza because there's no party scene, why not consider that lots of people will be there because there's no more party scnee? It's quite shocking for me to see someone who spends half year there and can see a bit further of Pacha.

And by the way, Menorca has only 1 club.

Yes i have been to Menorca. My sister lives in Mahon.

I agree with what you say that "it's not about what is different here, actually as you said all med resorts can be compared but it gives you the clue: people wants sea, sun and sand and that's something Ibiza has."

My problem is that i tried to convince people i spoke to that Ibiza has more to lure tourists than other med resorts OTHER than the party scene, and so far have not been able to.

EVERYBODY so far who has answered my post seems not to understand what i am trying to find out. I would still stay here if all the clubs shut down, I love the place BUT i (foolishly, it now seems) tried to argue with other residents that Ibiza has more to offer the tourist than partying 24/7 and whilst i have had some reasons I havent had any that have won me the argument!

If anyone wants to help i am looking for something that would attract lots of tourists to come to ibiza instead of anywhere else in the med. Answers gladly accepted!

Which tourists are you asking ?? If you asked a family of five in one of the quiet resorts they would have probably never heard of Space, Bora Bora e.t.c.

JT,
I don't do clubs, so I can be considered target for most med resorts
I prefer Ibiza than Menorca, but I like the best Formentera. I'm not sure if I prefer Formentera than Cabo de Gata but I prefer Cabo de Gata than Tarifa.
All of those med resorts offer the same (sea, sun and sand) and IMO the things that make them differents are too subjectif.

Really, I insist that I don't think it's important to point out what makes Ibiza so different. It's just that people love the mediterranean styleee so med resorts will be alwyas fully booked.

And you have a very lucky sister ;)
