Just a recap here off my clubbing experiences to hopefully see other views on same nights I went to and maybe to help others in making choices when deciding on club nights to go to.
My first ever trip to the island was 2011 so returning in 2012 for my second stint.
Day 1
Wednesday Aug 29 @ Sankeys - Viva Warriors
My first time at Sankey's Ibiza. First impressions were that it was dark, dingy and underground, kind of what I expected and hoped for. I love the bright lights of Space but was hoping this would be a smaller club with less flash and a nice underground feel and it was.
The main event was of course Steve Lawler. The warm up dj's did their job, keeping it low key but a but monotonous for me. I understand the role of warming up but I dont want to stand around tapping my foot waiting for the first 2/3 hours before I get excited by the music.
Back room wasn't too bad, good bit of space too take a break from the main room.
Lawler came on around 2:45 and pretty much dominated the room. Great set, we left around 6, everyone satisfied by a solid night out. Tune of the night - Night Train remix by Julio Perez dropped by Lawler
Day 2
Thursday Aug 30 @ DC10 - Paradise
This will arguably go down as our best night on the island. Much less crammed than Mondays for Circo Loco, which I loved! The red room was now a chill out room with palm trees etc, perfect. The main room had Metro Area dropping nothing but the best in deep house with a funk twist.
The lighting was superb, the vibe was excellent and the music was on point all night. Nice work!
Day 3
Friday Aug 31 @ Amnesia - Music On
Marco Carola's night was to be a packed one. Difficult to get on the floor on Terrace, lighting, music and crowd all top class and Carola pretty much played all night out there, a bit slow to get going but by the last hour he was fully banging it out, very nice indeed.
Audiofly in the main room was def the best dj and played sick tech house which was fresh sounding and different from the monotonous chugging you hear to often these days.
This was my first time to Amnesia and although the club is mega, it's maybe a bit too mega for my liking. Still had a great time but the Terrace just is more like a concert hall with the huge tall ceilings but the light show is phenomenal. Solid night though.
Day 4
Saturday Sep 1 @ Sankeys - Carnival
We went in anticipation of catching Huxley. Result was, after drinking too much in the day on the arrival of the last member of our crew flying in from Glasgow, I remember f*ck all about this night. Moving on
Day 5
Sunday Sep 2 - Ibiza town and dinner at La Brasa (Top notch, try it) - Night off from clubbing after the debacle that was Saturday.
Day 6
Monday Sep 3 - Cafe Mambo for the sunset followed by Amnesia - Cocoon
Was intrigued to catch Sven Vath who played a varied techno set which pleased no end. He was followed by Gary Beck who is much talked about and respected in the techno scene. He's made many a club banger and hails from Glasgow I believe. Anyway we stuck around to catch the first 5 or 6 tunes from Mr Beck and as much as I love driving techno, it was pretty one dimensional stuff and boring to me, maybe I was just feeling the effects of a heavy week but we shipped out around 5am. Decent night but not the best.
Day 7
Tuesday Sep 4 - Space - Carl Cox
This was my favorite night last year and had potential to be again this year but it was soooo packed it was unreal. Once we found a spot in La Discoteca we didnt move for 3 hours. Amazing set by Chris Liebing followed by Carl Cox pumping it up right through to the end, a fantastic performance by the big man! It was my last night and I left by around 5:30am.
Earlier in La Terrazza Giles Peterson played a very weird set for Space, too light for me at 2am in Space but still decent then Laurent Garnier came on and throbbed out some good techno tracks, I only caught a bit before heading to Discoteca for Liebing and Cox but was pretty good.
I could add a lot more in here but think this is enough to give an idea of how each night varied from my point of view.
All the best!
See you next year!
