Ibiza - To Be Or Not To Be - the dilemma !

Ok, here's the dilemma. Mates of mine are going out to Ibiza in mid September for a week and I've been invited along.
The real issue is, I don't know if I can be arsed ! Don't get me wrong, I still love the music as much as ever, but last year's horrendously busy clubs and Guardia activity left me a bit disillusioned with Ibiza. Some of the old atmosphere was missing, Cocoon was full of try-hards, DC10 full of ket-heads (the single worst set of people in clubland at the moment - please sort your lives out) and Space was a little bit flat.
On the other hand, I haven't really had a "holiday" this year, the banter over there will be superb and it'll be a chance for a bit of a blow-out. Hawtin is doing Cocoon, which is worth going on it's own for me.
Perhaps I just have to avoid the West End of San An like the plague (because I inevitably end up being dragged there). I think I'm in danger of turning into one of those boring old DJ types who only prop up the bar and whinge about how it "used to be good". I never thought I'd see the day.
I rarely venture out these days to see another dj, I'm usually there because: a) my mates are there, b) I'm drunk or c) I happen to know someone playing in the club (or all 3 of these).
Have I talked myself out of going to Ibiza for the first time in 8 years??!!!!

You just wanna get to Kilties for a square sausage and a tattie scone Stu!

This is all a cover story for when the photos come out.

When I hear of people living so near (compared to me!) saying that can't be bothered to go to a place a mere 2 hour flight away... I just get sad.

Go! :)

it doesn't matter how close it is if it just doesn't have the same appeal as it used to....

try somewhere new for one year only. its not like the island is going anywhere. as soon as all the "best of funky house" cds are not on the main display in HMV will be my signal to return.

Ibiza's always been full of try hards, it's probably your tolerance levels which will have changed.

It sounds like you're getting a bit jaded.

Which is why you should go! Your level of expectations sounds pretty low, so you can only be pleasantly surprised. And if, as you say, the crack will be great, to be honest - that's the key to great times big and small.

Try to do what you really feel like doing, rather than what you always do.

Take the pressure and go with a different mindset, ie. "I'm going for the crack with the lads" as opposed to "I'm in Ibiza - I've got to have an unforgettable clubbing experience". I know you know you know your stuff clubbing wise - and I'm not teaching you to suck eggs, but maybe that'sthe problem. You've done and seen a lot and each time it gets harder to compete with the previous.

Once you're booked up, you'll start to get that feeling of anticipation again.

I always knew the jocks never had it in 'em ;)

G'wan Stu, especially if you're talking around the 21st to the 25th.

Full crew is in attendance, and I'd be amazed if you said Space was 'flat' with all of us involved.

To be honest - it wasnt all about the clubbing this year for us either, we did a couple of clubs but most of the time we just went out, had a laugh early doors, then went back to the villas for a bit of silliness, explored more, ate out more, and generally just kicked back for 2 weeks as opposed to turning the holiday into complete carnage...... as per the last 7 years and 9 visits... it was more about the company this year than the clubs..... 8)8)

I actually loved this holiday more because of the difference in activities - call me old(er) but maybe not wise(r) but I just cant be funked with stupidly spannered kids on the dancefloor anymore..... :spank::spank::spank: I get dancefloor rage these days much to my dismay....:oops::oops::oops::oops:

stu - how can you diminish ibiza to cocoon, space, dc10 and san an's west end only? 8O

if you are fed up with this places, then try something else (as others said above). stay outside the big centers, rent a car, explore the island, have nice dinners etc. and i'm sure, if you decide on coming, you still will be going clubbing! for this year, i had both brilliant as well as less brilliant days/nights at dc10, cocoon and space. and with the fact that many forummers will be around - what can go wrong???? :D

I know what you mean about the atmosphere at DC-10 last year. It wasn't so much the k-heads I noticed but the people who were obviously there because they'd heard it was the trendy place to go, and were clearly bemused, instead of enthused, by the music. Add all the ruddy Italians doing the Seven Nation Army chant every five minutes, and the atmosphere was much diminished.

But when I went this year in July, the terrace was back to its best, with a really intense, joyful atmosphere as, clearly, most of the people there were really there because they love that club. Maybe I was being unobservant, but I did not notice too many blatantly muntered punters either that day. It was one of the best DC-10 hoedowns I've had, capped with a scintillating set from Luciano.

And if DC-10 gets shut down by the disco mafia/politicians/tourism capos/guardia coalition during the off-season, as seems likely, you might kick yourself you didn't get a chance to say goodbye.

Why not try an alternative night at Las Dalias on Sundays and/or Wednesday? I always feel as though I'm taking part in something special when I go and it's the closest you'll get to the old free parties that used to be held up in the hills.

Freak n chic (if it's still going on) is brilliant at las dalias. Wasn't that full when I went but might have picked up now it's mid season. Clashes with sundays at space though.

will there be something on at las dalias on 23rd september? im skipping we love this time round for money reasons (unless anyone fancies chucking me a guestlist ;);););););););))
