I went to the parents last week and happened to mentioned that Ill be off to ibiza in a month....MISTAKE!!! I got a huge lecture on drug taking and how bad it is.... :?

I have tried to explain that there is more to it than that.....music is the main reason for everyone love of Ibiza.....drugs play only a small part!!

Whilst I may take the odd drug here and there 8O and no doubt I may stubble across some when I am there (maybe I am too honest)....the main reason I am going is the the clubs, music and people!!!

As Ive not been before, is the stereotype true???

SORRY IF THIS IS A BANNED SUBJECT!!!!

there are drugs in the dance music scene. There is lots of dance music in ibiza!!

End of the day its each to their own. It is deffinately not the case that everyone goes there to take drugs. if you said it was then this thread would be flooded with people saying they dont.

In my opinion people go for the clubs and the music. people can take drugs at home why would they pay to go to ibiza if thats what they went for

We had some friends from Moscow come meet us for a weekend in the middle of our trip in June. They were floored to see families with kids, pensioners, etc. all around the island. The stereotypes are persistent.

The reality is, you can have any kind of vacation on Ibiza you want. From relaxing on remote quiet beaches to backpacking, exploring caves, diving, eating in nice restaurants, catching some live jazz, etc..

Oh, and you can party pretty hard too ;)

yeah get this all the time at work.
Ibiza... Drugs, Sex, fighting yobs, Drugs, 18-30, Drugs blah blah blah
Ive tried, my God how ive tried to educate these people.
Im afraid the sterotype is just far too strong in some peoples minds.

On a brighter note, out & about in July I spoke to more people than ever that had never been before & this board seems quite busy with newbie questions.

hopefully my answer will stand three secs without the post bein deleted

Exactly what Morbyd said (you are so wise my friend) . It is what you make of it... for me personally, the fun, music and beauty of the island have mostly been enough entertainment. Not to say I haven't paid a few visits to the "dark side" Praise your parents for being concerned (plenty of people don't have great, caring moms and dads that have good eye on you and care that much). It can get wild, but keep your head on straight and watch out for yourself and your friends. There is so much more to the island than the "Wild On" experience... being in Ibiza is enough of a high on its own

:D :D

my parents, pensioners in their 70's, come here once or twice every year and they have absolutely no idea that a dance music/drug scene exists on ibiza.

ok, they can't have missed seeing a few billboards and posters, but in essence they haven't got a clue about the island's 'dark side' (though for the life of me i can't find anything dark about a few pilled up undergrads poncing about on a dancefloor) and see the place as somewhere to spend lazy days chatting in coffee bars, strolling on the paseo, doing a bit of sailing and just generally relaxing.

stephen makes mental note. 'must take pater to bora bora'

Its like saying England is only about drinking tea and eating scones!
