Ibiza Rocks @ IBIZA ROCKS HOTEL 2009

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Did you feel it? The foundations of the hotel shaking? The ground quaking under hundreds of stamping feet? The thumping, relentless beat of the untamed musical machine known only as Pendulum?

Even if you weren't resident on the White Island, you might just have felt the tremors of Tuesday's epic show.

The festivities kicked off with Brighton's dark and diabolical duo, South Central, who whipped the crowd into a frenzy for the arrival of Pendulum.

Firm favourites now at the island's hottest hotel - it almost wouldn't be Ibiza Rocks without the battlecry of the antipodean army and Pendulum did not disappoint.

For pictorial evidence of South Central and Pendulum tearing it up, look no further than this week's Ibiza Rocks photo gallery, right here.

And if you thought we couldn't take it up any further from here, think again: next week = The Enemy + Reverend & The Makers. Believe it.

We'll see you down the front.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]But wait, that's not all! Tonight's the night that Radio 1 roll into town with the world famous Ibiza broadcast.

Can you say 'party'?

From 7pm this evening (Friday 31 July) Radio 1 are bringing the noise to Ibiza with Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Vernon Kay, Jaymo & Andy George plus special live guests Florence & the Machine, Deadmau5, Miike Snow and DJ sets from Pendulum, Steve Angello, Fake Blood plus Ibiza Rocks resident Doorly.

Get down there early - it's first come, first served (though Ibiza Rocks Hotel guests are guaranteed entry, of course!)

the enemy

after last friday's radio 1 party (for which around 6.000 people popped in the hotel throughout the
afternoon/evening), time for IR again..... i loved reverend & the makers and the enemy last
summer so it was great to have them back presenting their brand spanking new albums.
cracking concerts..... the night ended up with the enemy's bassist stage diving ! !
sadly beardyman (uk beatbox '06/'07 champion) didn't arrive in time.....

Last Tuesday night was an all-out display of classic Ibiza Rocks talent.

John McClure's electro-funk dynamos, Reverend And The Makers, opened the night with a dazzling set showcasing their awesome new album, 'A French Kiss In The Chaos'. Politics, passion and massive tunes - it all comes naturally to The Rev, and McClure was on top form.

And then The Enemy...

Can any band be said to better embody the spirit of Ibiza Rocks? For the third year in a row Coventry's post punk renaissance men have brought their anthemic take on UK indie to the White Island - last year they played the opening gig at the Ibiza Rocks hotel and very nearly brought the house down.

This year was no less momentous; a beer-soaked journey though heartbreak and hardship and out the other side, all culminating in a mind-blowing finale and bassist Andy repeatedly throwing himself into the gleeful audience.

Truly brilliant stuff. Check out the gallery here for a taste of the action.

Next week: another returning hero - Dizzee Rascal supported by Example and Newham Generals. Get your tickets while you still can!

dizzee rascal

it's funny how the night dedicated to a style that has so many detractors (in this forum for example)
congregated more people than any other IR show... more than the kooks or keane, more than
calvin harris or groove armada, more than anybody else. the gig was sold out since monday
so many people couldn't get in. by the time dizzee rascal appeared onstage the place was
so busy you couldn't hardly move..... for second season in a row he attracted the
biggest crowd. people went crazy right from the start (with a wee bit of
that's not my name by the ting tings included) to the grand finale with
bonkers (not only the highlight of the night but probably
also their zenith this season)..... bonkers indeed ! !

The UK's finest exponents of Hip Hop landed with full force at Ibiza Rocks on Tuesday night with sets from Dizzee Rascal and Example rocking a completely off the hook crowd in the busiest show of the summer so far.

Example got the party started with his up-tempo electro garage rap mash-up flow before Dizzee finished us off.

'Bonkers' is one of the biggest party tunes of the summer and it didn't disappoint while new cut 'Holiday' was written for a night on the White Isle.

Check out some of the action from the night in this here gallery.

Onwards and upwards to next week when Vampire Weekend and Miike Snow will be crashing the party at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

Tickets are still available but be quick, they could sell out at any minute!

back to the guitars after last week's super-busy rap night..... it was the
turn for the swedish miike snow, with their emotion-filled songs, and
the new yorkers vampire weekend, with their fun and catchy music
(including new stuff from their next album). both were great ! !
btw, good to see american people in attendance
supporting the american band.....

23:30 - 00:30 PACO FERNÁNDEZ Y SU GENTE DEL SOL

Another top night of class-A entertainment at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel this Tuesday, with the world's finest flocking to the White Island for the enjoyment of all.

First up were Swedish wizards Miike Snow, fresh from an appearance at the Radio 1 Weekend a couple of weeks back, they wowed the crowds with their summer smash hit 'Animal'. If you've not heard of them yet, don't worry - they'll be kicking down your back door soon enough.

Vampire Weekend brought the party from New York via Soweto - opening up with the instantly-recognisable groove of 'Mansard Roof', they had the crowd dancing on the sand from the very first beat. 'Oxford Comma', 'A-Punk', 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa' - the perfect pop soundtrack to a perfect Balearic night.

vam1.jpg
vam2.jpg

There was no stopping there though: 2 Many DJs joined Vampire Weekend's Chris Baio for Reclaim! playing an awesome DJ set to finish off the night in style in the Ibiza Rocks room.

Check out this week's gallery for a taste of the action. Wish you were here?

Next week we have the dynamic duo known as MGMT and New York City's hottest new property, The Virgins! Call the traffic police 'cos it's gonna be a ROADBLOCK!

August ended with a bang at Ibiza Rocks this week thanks to the American invasion of MGMT and The Virgins!

The shining lights of the Balearic party season turned out to pay their respects, including Simon and Yasmin Le Bon and Jade Jagger.

Once again the poolside stage was rammed to the tiles and those lucky people with tickets were not disappointed. The night was kicked off by up-and-coming New Yorkers, The Virgins who put on one hell of a show packed full of tracks from their self titled debut album.

mgmt1.jpg
mgmt2.jpg

MGMT had a hard act to follow but were more than up to the job and soon had the 'Kids' dancing to their psychedelic, electro beats. It was certainly an 'Oracular Spectacular' as all the big hits were dropped including 'Time To Pretend', 'Electric Feel' and 'Weekend Wars'. And the band loved Ibiza so much they've already asked to return next year as Ibiza Rocks residents!

Check out some amazing pictures from the night here.

Next week we head full on into September with a little help from our favourite Belgians Soulwax, who will also be doubling up to provide turntable support in the form of 2manyDJs!

soulwax live is a spectacle so no big surprises..... like last year, they put up
a fantastic show (just watching the drummer go nuts is a spectacle itself).
i spotted tiesto in the vip-inside-the-vip again following all the action.....
will he turn into an IR regular like his fellow trance dj judge jules?
sadly theres only one more date left..... bring it on ! !

Before we get into Tuesday night's action we have a little treat from some of the best shows of the summer. Head here now to watch The Kooks, Vampire Weekend, Calvin Harris, Dizzee, The Ting Tings, Friendly Fires and more rip it up at Ibiza Rocks courtesy of our good friends over at Xbox and Guitar Hero.

As well as stocking the Ibiza Rocks Hotel with Xbox Kiosks and running Guitar Hero World Tour Sessions at the Xbox Social, they've also been producing these amazing short films with us. Enjoy!

Another treat for you all is resident Doorly's recent mini-mix for Annie Mac's Mash Up on Radio 1. You can download it here and check out the full tacklisting on the Radio 1 site here.

So, Tuesday night...

Soulwax returned for their annual September takeover, the third year in a row they have appeared at Ibiza Rocks.

It was full band first before the Dewaele Brothers hit the decks for a masterly 2ManyDJs session.

soul1.jpg
soul2.jpg

But that was not the end of the night, far from it. It was then on to the after party Reclaim the Dancefloor! where the duo played another 2 hour DJ set. The hardest working men in dance music?

It was also the first time they took their festival Audio/Visual set into a club ensuring an incredible end to their 4 appearances this summer. A massive hats off.

Click here for some photos from the night.

Burn The Negative were also on superb form in support, you can hear more of them by visiting www.myspace.com/burnthenegative.

So what next? Well only the closing party.

We have a massive line up in store with nu-rave overlords Klaxons headlining and support coming from one of 2009's hottest new acts, The Big Pink.

Then it's over to the closing night of Reclaim! where Digitalism will be performing their only Ibiza show of the summer and we'll have special guest appearances from dubstep dons Caspa and D&B crossover giants Chase & Status.

SEE YOU ON THE FLOOR FOR THE FINAL TIME THIS SUMMER
