Ibiza Proms

I just listened to it and I thought it was amazing, I can't wait to watch it later on the iPlayer!

i just quickly looked at it.. the problem is that the source of what they play are cheesy songs. Maybe if they would just play regular classical music with some cool producer there helping them make current sounds it would seem different. Is not bad but not amazing... good to take a girl out on a date or so. But nothing amazing or cutting edge.

I guess what I am saying is that they play original stuff instead of replicating and trying to fit in classical into dance or dance into classical. Maybe just play a lot of classical music with a hint or two of electronic.

6 Music are doing a Nils Frahm (German guy who straddles classical/electronic/jazz) prom next week. Should be on iplayer.

Some of the tunes already had classical or opera elements. I wonder if any of the audience were on the swedge? :D

I think you're missing the point a bit. How would that have celebrated Radio 1's 20 year association with Ibiza, which is after all what it was all about? It did exactly what it was supposed to do I think, took classic Ibiza tracks from over the years and re-presented them in a totally new way. I hardly think you can rightly call most of what they played "cheese" either. Insominia? Energy 52? Nightmare? etc. etc, seriously??

Fair play on energy 52 and insomnia. Not sure on some of the other ones.
You are right. Should have paid note attention. I was looking it at it quickly and did not understand the concept.

Although the idea in general is good. Classical music with bits of electronic.

Listened to it twice more since last Wednesday. And each time I hear it I still love it.
This wasn't meant to push boundaries forward. You can't look forward on the past. This wasn't meant to be cutting edge, but a celebration of some of the biggest tracks that have rocked the island.
Yes maybe some of the tracks John Newman sang didn't do the damage in DC10, but I'll bet you a drink in September when I'm in Ibiza that they did the damage in the West End.
And those punters are just as valid as the folks who go to DC10 to listen to Deep House and stroke their hipster beards

I really enjoyed it. As other people said it was what it was.

What I want to know is what was Pete Tong actually doing at the back on the decks?

I spotted that. I assume to remind people that it was about dance music, and dance music traditionally has had a DJ.
