Ibiza is not "Ibiza uncovered" west end crap- how

Ok so I'm having a hard time explaining to my parents and friends that I, a 26 year old male, is going to Ibiza.

Because of the freakin tabloids and sucka ass programs like "Ibiza uncovered" they all think it's a drunken dump for 17-20 year old english lads in football uniforms (well.. basically west end) ...

How the hell do I explain that this is not what Pacha and Space is all about?

Hard.. especially when they know zero about the culture and the music...

I get embarrassed tellin people where I'm going this summer!!! Please help!

I think you'll find that thanks to programmes like that it you'll get the same reaction off everyone who's never been to the island and experienced it for themselves.

I always make a point after telling them where im going that ' no im not going for the sex or to drink as much as i can until i throw up' because after all its only that one street that gives ibiza its bad name imo.

Take a video with you and record come of the nicer bits that they dont see on the programme like the marina in Ibiza Town and the Castle, sunsets etc. Dont think your allowed it in space tho and other clubs im afraid.

Have a good holiday ;) :D

Yeah, I get the same reaction - I'm forever trying to explain that it's nothing like the ClubReps/Uncovered thing (unless you hit the West End of course). Show them the "Ibiza's Children" video that's doing the rounds!

I know exaclty what you are talking about!!!! The only way is to grin and bare all the embarressment when people ask where you are going this summer.... Like mambobirdette say, prove them all wrong when you come back with an awesome video. There are two different kinds of associations that go to Ibiza....

C.A.F.A. - Cheese And Frenchies Association

I.C.A. - International Clubbers Association (If you're around Ibiza between 13th July - 25th July you may hear this being chanted in Space and a number of other venues. I-C-A, I-C-A, I-C-A, I-C-A, I-C-A, I-C-A,)

I think that the only way you can change peoples preconceptions of Ibiza is to get them to go, I didnt expect it to be anything like it was when i 1st went. People will not listen to how beautiful the island is, the cool and friendly people, the culture and history etc they think you are trying to talk up your holiday, when in fact you cant even talk too much about the best bit; clubbing

tell them that ibiza is an island of contrasts!! and like most things in life it caters for all tastes/pockets!!!

if there was a documentary about cars called "cars uncovered"

then the cars featured would be grotty little hatchbacks, driven by acne ridden, shell suit wearing dropouts called garry!!!

while the bentleys, tvrs, ferraris, aston martins etc dont get a look in!!

there was a tv programme from about 1994/94 called "passengers" on c4, featuring my mate "balearic barney" which illustrated the beauty, mysticism & magic that is found on "la isla blanca"

peace!!

This won't suit everyone but a couple of years ago I was in Ibiza for a few weeks and my parents were on holiday on the Costa Blanca. I persuaded them to come over on the ferry for a couple of days...they stayed in the villa we were hiring, we took them for some nice meals in Dalt Villa, to Cala Bassa beach for the day, visited Es Vedra, the hippy market and then they returned to the mainland. They loved Ibiza.

Ever since then they have never questioned why I love Ibiza too....

listen man dont be embarressed,im 29 an my girlfriend is 27,we,ve bein go,n 2 ibiza for the last 7 years,my sis an her husband were the same as ur folks, they came over 4 a laugh,4 1 week, last year, turned out tney loved the place so much they're coming over in sept,4 2 weeks.u should laugh at those who have never experienced the true meaning of the island.its only ignorance on their part

The way i see it if you show the other videos out there, Ibiza's children, The dogs Balerics, Barefoot in the med, Ibiza TV, A short film about chilling etc. you make it look like you're going out for the drugs/clubs scene instead of the lager lout scene.

Catch 22!

that's exactly right jt.

my contemporaries often ask me why the hell i live on a clubbin island full to the brim with undergrads on acid as per rapture tv mixmag etc etc etc.

my answer always is that clubbers, just like our beer drinking visitors, tend to stick to a dozen or so places, ( as do the yachting fraternity ) and are quite easily avoided.

the proof - have any of you ever seen me in ibiza? no, because you wouldn't dream of going to the places i go to ( and vice versa).

the truth is that there are lots of ibizas and none of them is the 'real ibiza'
there's plenty for everybody here and that's why i like it.

why where do u go to? :D

u got some nice hidden place ure not sharing with us all?

coincidentally, john patterson who is the director general of gb airways is here at the moment to publicise the launch of their new flights.

he is quoted as saying that there are 2 perceptions of ibiza in britain - one is of young people and drugs, the other the paradise of your dreams.

for many years ibiza has had different images, in britain ibiza was nearly always thought of as a package tour destination, cheap and cheerful (which it was) but in france and italy it was seen as a sophisticated destination (which it was)

the beauty of the place is that it can be what so many people want it to be and if people want to do something different to you - so what!

I´m 27 and my hubbie is 38 and when we tell peeps we are going (the ones who dont work in the music industry as we do) - they arel ike: OMG! Why???? and why do you go back each year??

And Im like     f*ck you are all so narrow minded, I for 1 don´t do ANY drugs of ANY kind, dont smoke regular or wheed, dont play with pills - a glass of wine is all I need and still most peeps think we are a pillpopping couple - and as if!

I JUST THINK it´s sad that mostp eeps loose their curiosity after age 25, and after that don´t experience with life, the places they go or the music they listen to anymore. well naturally it doesnt go for the peeps in these forums, but especially in DK - Women get fat, men get boring, they get kids, houses, a fence, a volvo and life after 25 is potatowedges and the beatles!!!

f******ck I´m NEVER gonna end up like that! I´m married, MIGHT have kid or two one day but the first thing I´m gonna do is bring them to Ibiza so they can get used to it straight away hahaha!
