Ibiza Gossip 2026

Catching up and appears to have been some nice announcements: Trance at UNVRS is interesting. Not sure I’m making it to the island this year but I would check it out if I make it.

Steve Lawer taking over Saturdays at Blue Marlin? That’s a great booking and in my opinion, is the 1st booking blue Marlin has made in years that has caught my attention from a residency perspective. Haven’t thought of going to blue Marlin since the days of Pete tong +1.

Any updates on paradise this year? Back to UNVRS again I would imagine just hasn’t been announced?

Seems to be lots of one offs and mini residency’s this year across all clubs.

What do you guys make of that?

I don’t think it’s a bad thing but Personally it would really make me hold off on booking flights until I know for sure what my week will look like.

We booked about a week or 2 before there was an influx of nights being confirmed, would have chose other dates if we of waited.

Aside from the fact that it has tripled and nearly quadrupled my workload, I have two main thoughts:

- it highlights just how shallow the pool is for genuine headline residents that guarantee strong sales week-in, week-out. We can all complain about the Guettas, the Calvins and Carolas and the monopoly they've held for years, but that A-league are simply lightyears ahead of even the next lower tier down

- it does keep things a bit refresher from month to month. That's good for the likes of me, island residents and anybody else who spends a prolonged period of time here each summer, but yes, you're right, it makes an itinerary harder to plan if you are a holidaymaker dipping in and out once or twice
 
Seen Guetta at Creamfields in 2022 - his 'future rave' sound still carries EDM focus, but it's not the R&B style hits of the mid 10s he was doing. The lyrics appear still, but they definitely are different.

His AMF set from 2020 was super enjoyable as well - he's still got it I think.

He does however get marks off for just releasing a cover of 'I just died in your arms' by Cutting Crew. Hopefully this trip to UNRVS with Coxy enlightens him that surely he doesnt need to keep doing all the cheese :)

I think the mini residencies thing is actually a pretty smart move. you can see a lot of them are done pre- or post the big residencies, so it provides a trial period for newer artists to see whether they have the power to fill a venue. so rather than risking doing a full season residency and possibly failing, why not try with a shorter one - and not smack bang in peak season when you're going up against everyone else. as WIC correctly says, the current full season residents are way above lots of other artists and these smaller residencies could / can lead some of the upcoming artists to slowly rise up and then at some point taking over (in about 20 years when carola and guetta have had enough hahaha).

for the clubs those mini residencies also provide a good way of having some meaningful content before and after the big residencies, but with a way smaller financial risk. and as a clubber you will likely also benefit of a lower ticket price.
 
I may have initially started the Guetta debate with my reaction so here's my thoughts:

He was clearly a good house DJ many years ago. Some of his tunes pre-2009 were okay also, I was dancing to "Tomorrow Can Wait" in Pacha last summer even. That said, I don't want to see him on a Carl Cox line up. I understand the curiosity side of it and he isn't going to be rocking up playing Titanium (I think I saw it labelled as "House set" anyhow) but a Carl Cox night in Ibiza is the very antithesis of Guetta nights with cheese and fireworks, so it just feels wrong. I suspect this idea has come from those above.

Laurent Garnier once said that David changed the way dance music was viewed, and not in a good way. Personally I resent that he was probably responsible for making music accessible to people who don't have a clue, or really care about it. But some may say that's a good thing.
