good feedback, but interesting to see how very different perception of any situation can be.

it was certainly a mistake of them to programme two rooms, but looking back, the very same could be said about coxy's night as well as topping's. all of those events were only busy enough in one room.

apart from that, I really don't see the 'arrogant approach' myself. what she did was pretty normal and her playing early was a reaction when after the first date or two numbers weren't good, so they tried putting her on early to get in punters early.

IMO, it was simply a matter of having a far too strong competition with paradise and with everything else going on at dc10 during the week and in ibiza generally.

and even if charlotte might have more momentum (and to be honest I personally also like her more than ameile), I think she might face the same troubles.

could she run a floor on her own at afterlife or at any other night in hï? yes. could she sucesssfully run her own residency in ibiza? tricky I think.
Yeah. Lens’ sound is up my street. I just wasn’t there when she was otherwise we would have gone. I just don’t think she’s done the hard yards in Ibiza to establish herself, unlike Cox. Then she lands peak season on a shirt residency and just expects it to work over two rooms, playing short early sets and in the middle of the week.

As you reference, Cox found DC10 tough going though didn’t he?

I think de Witte is a bit more mainstream and more flavour if the month. Tbf, she’s sustained that pre, during and post lockdown. I couldn’t see a residency working at DC10 if she did what Lens did. But, I could see it working at Hi. it feels like they are grooming her anyway. But I’m just outside looking in.

I went to Charlotte's Hi one-off this summer and it was busy but I also got guest list which ive never had in Ibiza before so doubts about how many were paying full price to be there

well ok, you really cannot compare her to cox in ANY way. cox has been around for almost 30 years now, she wasn't even born then was she? I get what you say though. thing is, if you start a new night, what you usually do is a short stint peak season. look at capriati, he's more than ripe for his own residency, but (IMO) he's doing it right, he's very careful and this year only did 3 nights and guested at a lot of other nights - and anywhere he showed up, he smashed it. I think we can expect him to do a few more this coming year (maybe 5-6 six dates of his own residency) and if that works well, he'll go for a full blown thing in 2024. that's just how you do it properly usually.

as for 'in the middle of the week' - that's simply what she got and her playing festivals all summer she also wouldn't do herself a favour doing a weekend night.

look, as much as I love dc10, IMO they were really ill-advised this past summer. they used to have two BIG nights (circo and paradise) and a third night peak summer that did OK but nothing major. then suddenly for this year they tried to go for FIVE full two-room-residencies in peak season. honestly, most of industry people on the island were like 'really?'...

- coxy should never have done two rooms with only him being the 'real' headliner mostly. either go one room only or then get a full proper line up together with headliners in both rooms.

- amelie just doesn't have the substance at this point, not on her own compared to what else is going on here and also because she can't count on an artist roster that sells tickets apart from her. a good comparison here is bibi's solid grooves - yes, of course he is the main man, but people will also go for the likes of dennis cruz, pawsa etc and there is a real label following for SG already.

- topping was another ill-advised case. yes he is big, but it was a friday night - currently the island's biggest night - and it was evident not both rooms were gonna get full for that.

as for CDW, yes I can see her leading the club room in hï within another night, but I hope she won't do the same mistake as AL and try to do her own residency at this point.

Interesting. She was just an example to address your question. It’s increasingly hard to see how djs can break through to headline residency status in Ibiza. The old guard have it nailed down and new residencies seem to be based on clubs developing and sponsoring talent themselves over time. Hi and Ushuaia have been particularly astute, ie. Camelphat, Olivia, Solardo, Camelphat, etc.

I think we are saying similar things. But I’m just a visitor and interested onlooker unlike yourself who is a resident and engaged in the industry, therefore your perspective is much more relevant. I’m not slagging the djs off, just reflecting on @Digital2013 question as it’s stimulated and interesting debate imo. Breaking through is an increasingly tough task. That’s what all of us who have been around the island for a long time seem to be saying. I can’t comment on Topping as it’s just not my bag at all.

I think capriati could get a residency next season. I know he did a couple of nights at Amnesia (this year?) but his uk following is growing and growing even though for me he’s got progressively worse for the last 6 year or so. Followed the Carola route of choosing tech house as his sound🤢

Yes, I feel very disillusioned with techno these days. My kind of techno (Groovy, deep stuff around 130-134 bmp) is not en vogue anymore, DJs that used to play it have either moved for money reasons to tech-house or to this terrible hard techno / trance trash at 150 bpm.
Only some of the old guard are hanging on, like Dubfire, Sven (when he plays techno) or Adam Beyer. When will this shift again :/

Wont get a residency but Anotr are gunna blow up and be very popular
Why not a residency somewhere? I'm not a fan, cause the vibe they create feels a little...fake? But I think their No Art concept in a smaller residency such as 6x in a summer would definitly work and sell out.

Just not sure they’re big enough/well known enough for a residency in Ibiza…..YET
