A theory I have (feel free to correct, ignore, throw cabbages..) there seem to be several parallel scenes now whereas perhaps in the past there weren't as many - the whole market has fragmented to cater to different nationalities, ages, musical traditions, day v night etc
loosely grouped as
- urban/latin
- 'techbro'
- "melodic" post-prog
- the underground-not-underground festival circuit
- corporate/business techno
- heritage house/disco
- global confetti stage kings (ex-EDM, now known as ?)
- ancient balearic farts
- organic neo-hippy electronic
Whilst there is obv some overlap between these various tribes, there isn't really any one scene or one dominant superstar that appeals to everyone anymore, which I think is why, bringing it back to your post, we are all constantly going Who ?

Curious to see if the confetti is still allowed in open air. I know they've been struggling with it in a lot of open air places because of environmental issues....wich makes sense.

Now with Alok announced at Hi the only choice for "underground" fans on Mondays is Circoloco, which probably will be rammed. I wonder on how many more days of the week this will be the case this summer. I don't remember a season where you didn't have at least two venues playing underground house/techno on any day of the week. Space and to a degree Privilege sorely missing.. (and yes, there is Underground and Octan, but no 'superclubs').
