can anyone tell me if theres any decent books out there about the history of the club scene in ibiza.. Something thats a good read from someone thats been there from the start..

cheers...

These aren't solely on clubbing in Ibiza but are a good history of the clubbing scene in general so obviously feature Ibiza to quite a great extent.

Wayne Anthony - Spanish Highs - Sex, Drugs and Excess in Ibiza
Wayne Anthony - Class of 88
Sherul Garratt - Adventures in Wonderland
Matthew Collin - Altered State - Story of Ecstasy and Acid House

I'll move this even further away.

It's not a story of Ibiza clubbing, or clubbing, but Storming Heaven by Jay Stevens is an excellent yarn about the rise of LSD. Bit slow at first but stick with it.

The White Island by Stephen Armstrong is a good read.

He talks about all aspects of the island (including some clubbing elements) over the last 2000 years.

Very good, if a little deep in places.

;)

ehmmm which one was the one with Norman Cook (fatboy), Oakie and co going to Ibiza for the first time and trying drugs and "inventing" the popularity of the isle???

Norman Cook wasn't part of the original 4 who went over, it was Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, Nicky Holloway and Johnny Walker.

All those books I listed have comprehensive chapters on them about them visting Ibiza for the first time, their first pill over there, the music they heard for the first time over there and how they brought the whole Balaeric feeling back to London in the form of Spectrum and Schoom.

please, no posts about the treaty of westphalia or the war of the spanish succession. i've had enough bacon and bourbon biscuits today already!

This one of the books I 'm reading at the mo. I'll never get them finished if I don't concentrate on one for a bit.

for a completely non clubbing view of ibiza's history you could try emily kaufmann's book a history buff's guide to ibiza. it doesn't have any dj's or smileys but there's loads of intrigue round the caliphates of baghdad and damascus.

Couldn't be bothered to read this entire thread so don't know if anyone has mentioned the Ben Turner one.
I've forgotten then name of it but there are some lovely glossy images and brilliant stories. 8)
