Is Groove Armada still a thing? Lost interest for ages but then got back into them
Yeah saw them last year at Glitterbox Dublin outdoors, rather brill. DJing mind, just after Sinead OConnor just passed. Opened with Nothing Compares in to Obskur, ripped roof off.. Hung out after with them, Andy is still a gent! So the full band in the last couple of years, excellent. So yeah still well able. Might pop in on Tuesday to see at defected on the back off

This intv with Mark Barrott is just so incredibly sad. (See also Nick Cave, channelling all that grief into the music)

I read this first thing too. Tragic. He has been through a lot in his life and is a fascinating guy. The album is going to be very special.

Two very different takes on modern Ibiza (I know which one I'm more aligned with)

I align more with Hannah's take than the other one.

Each year I usually spend 2 weeks on Ibiza (mid-range hotels in San An, and *trying* to live healthily), and 5 weeks wild camping in areas of Greece where foreign tourists are few and far between. I think I know what she is seeking, and it might be becoming increasingly available. As the populations of countries like Spain, Italy and Greece decrease due to low birth rates, and those left increasingly move to the large cities, rural areas are becoming more remote than before.

There are coastal regions of Italy and parts of Greece outside of the tourist areas, where time seems to be going backwards. Houses become abandoned, infrastructure falls apart, and nature returns. But not Ibiza. Ibiza, along with places like Mykonos and Santorini, are just getting more and more popular, as well as expensive and unobtainable.

She needs to go to the places hardly anyone has heard of, and no one recommends.

Of course, there's nothing like staying at OKU to really insulate oneself from the authenticity of Ibiza, NOT connect with the island in its natural state, ensure one is using up more than one's share of resources, and doing ones bit at pricing the locals out of the real estate market.

Next year she should bring a tent to go wild camping, and spend the holiday dodging the police - hippie style.

that's a good point. I think there is this generation of pseudo-hippies with money who want to buy into this holistic Ibiza fantasy but without getting their hands dirty. They can be irritating but are they more socially problematic than mass tourism? I guess there is a debate to be had there
