ibiza 2019 observations

come on what ?

There is a difference, I was at the front in the wild corner Friday and I watched Jason Bye tear the place up, he was mesmerising, he interacted with the crowd, the speakers were a metre away from us the atmosphere was awesome compared to when I came back and was at the back.

It’s the same when I have been to the PW it really does buzz at the front. I rarely do it but I find there is a difference.

right, interaction between the DJ and the crowd is meant. that point I'll give you. I took it as crowd interaction within people generally which I think is the same everywhere in the club.

I actually might have wrote it down a bit vague, I like interaction with the dj's. Seeing them play, making gestures, pumping up the crowd. Once I'm halfway in a crowd I'm not really seeing that anymore. For me, I move around...I'm not in one place all night..and when I find people around me who I can have fun with I'm probably staying there, no matter where it exactly is. I just don't assume everyone at the front does that for instagram, while I know a lot do. And yeah I make videos for my own collection of memories or for instagram sometimes. Rewatching them gives me great feelings. But I definitely don't do that the whole night like you see some people do....that's a waste of a night out imho.

that I understand. I even find myself at the front sometimes at some point of the event and that's all fair enough. I also don't mind if anyone does a quick video or takes a few pictures - never have said anything against that. what I mind is continuous filming (esp if with flashlight running).

We all go out and party to have fun right ?

Doesn’t matter if you are at the front , middle or back ! never think before going out where I will be partying when I go to a club or festival ...when you know the club (Ibiza or barcelona in my case )yes I have a place in each one to start the night ! Just a place where you feel more comfortable ( not too far from bar and toilet ) and where they are not too much people cruising but that it ... because the only thing that can annoy sometimes I’m club is when it s too crowded and you are in a cruising zone ( space terrace had quiet a few cruising zone for example with the 3 access and staying in one of them for the entire night can be a nightmare)

I dance where I have enough space and where the sound is good.
If the sound is shit if you are not at the front, it means to me that the club is shit.
I go clubbing for the music first, the ambiance in second.
I don't give a shit to see the dj, I interact with him by the music and nothing else.

at pacha I thought the soundsystem was superb. Ok the bassline frequency on one track had me covering my right ear but generally it was very good. I found a good space between the podium and the bar at the back where I wasn't caught in the passing traffic. Didn't feel any real need to get immersed in the crowd. old b'stard though - like to lean on walls/pillars!

I'm a bit claustrophobic and hate unapologetic bumping and barging, so tended to stay away from the front of most places, unless the crowd is polite and mature enough to be reasonably compos mentis. Being under 5ft 10 doesn't help in the middle either.

Not fussed about interacting with DJs, for me the best sets are still the ones where the music is the focus and not the DJ. It was like a breath of fresh air when Sasha & Digweed played together behind a translucent screen and attention was diverted to the sound waves. Or the DJ booth is discreetly tucked away in a corner like on the main floor in Berghain, it really shifts focus from the DJ back to the floor itself and stops all the god-worshipping behaviour and clustering at the front. I never liked all the "MC" shyte that went with raves either !

It's been 2 years now since I went to a club (1 if you count a daytime event at Blue Marlin). Squaring up to 'rude Italians' (stereotype term for rude large bargey people of any nationality in reality) to defend dancefloor territory just isn't something I ever want to have to be dealing with again. Done enough of that to last a lifetime. I guess that means I am officially now "past" my big clubbing days or going to very busy parties, and I have no desire to evolve into one of the table service crowd in the VIP (even less desire to spend my money on it). I think it's just how things evolve for a lot of people. When even standing in a club queue for 10 minutes has you looking at your watch feeling like you're wasting your life, it's time to move on and change your scenery. That time may not come for everyone but it has for me, and I never thought it would !! When you're young enough to brush all that off without it bothering you too much is the time to make the most of it so go for it and enjoy it all as much as you can. Had some really great times despite all the irritations.

Studded backpacks in a crowd are the worst ?

Backpacks generally - it's the thing I miss least about the 1990s !! Number of times I got clocked in the face by someone's backpack swinging round as they busted out a move in a busy space lol. They were as annoying then as constant filming, a sea of cellphones or overcrowding is now !!

We are dinosaurs my Friend ?

I have finally faced up to it @jimmiz - my mid-life crisis is at an end, on one front at least, a few more still left to go ?

Near the toilet works for me these days

Less than 10 mtrs from a bar, and less than 10 mtrs from the toilet is a non-negotiable rule for me.

?? Near a toilet goes without saying - and that's not even about getting inside a cubicle ?

Went there 7pm,Prepaid tix was the answer as queue was huge 200people ,1 black staff guy having no clue that pre paid tix was in middle and trying to get me into Discount glist queue

Musically ..i wont go back to any Marco Destino event paying .not Boring but so unexpected Ok Tech House..same Apply for Cox in any events..sounds "Deja vu"..
Why mention the race of the door guy? To the untrained reader, it seems like quite a pejorative undertone.

*edit, I used the “r” word, but changed it to pejorative, as racism is not something to be so casually a term to be thrown around.

For some reasons he feels compelled to specify race and nationalities of whoever interacts with whether is in a positive or negative way.

Cubicle?
I’ll piss anywhere ?

It's partly behind my rising fear of built-up areas - in the countryside you don't have to think twice about having somewhere to go. The minute you hit the city limits you wind up clocking every convenience on your route like the forward wave of a recon mission ? Try having a pee behind the portaloos in the DC-10 garden these days and you'll find yourself ejected head first into the nearest bush (if you're lucky !!)
