ibiza 2019 observations

Report from Disco Disco at Pikes. We had planned an easier night last night, so went up to Pikes. Though in the end danced non-stop, so wasn’t so easy.

Genuinely one of the best nights I’ve had in Freddie’s. This was less Glitterbox style and some real proper old soulful f***y stuff. I think @Kim Wrong Un would have loved it.

And about 0100am a tall guy wearing a wig and fake boobs turned up. Not sure how many people noticed, but it was Mr Oliver Jones I.e. Skream. Absolutely totally blown away with his set. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone mix that kind of disco so well.

Disco really does bring a crowd together on the dancefloor doesn’t it? I know this sounds cheesy, but young, old, gay straight etc, much more diverse crowd than other genres. Was great seeing a group of young lads smiling away to it having time of their lives.

And you know there is something great about seeing groups of young guys smiling and dancing to disco. Not because I think they might be fit, but for so long (in recent history) Disco has been associated with girls dancing around handbags and hugging their gay friends. So seeing guys enjoying it like this is brilliant. If you think how slow so much generic tech-house is at the moment, with Disco, the dancing is so much faster and animated, and I think it’s why so many people are loving it right now.

it's only dipshit office workers who think it is all afro wigs and village people - when the reality is that disco was so broad, so advanced and multi-layered that it could appeal to pretty much anyone with an open mind and open feet. for me, disco could be anything from traditional orchestral philly funk through to african drums through to german or french robotic synths - that's what made it all so exciting.

Agree - and revival is definitely underway .. a well done Disco set for me beats 90% of (especially vocal-heavy) House sets I've heard, most of which are sadly as dull as dishwater and about as groovy as a polished marble (ducks)

Anybody knows what happend to that house beach front in PDB? What it use to be? What next? Looks like dream potentiel to us!

There's really nothing to do near where we stayed; we had a car and did some day trips.

It was my friend's 30th birthday - he's extremely well hooked up, so we ended up in the booth with Maceo at one point.

Warung is insane, watching the sun come up... what a venue.

Once in a lifetime experience, that's for sure.
 
Just a warning for anybody going to Ushuaïa over the coming weeks - the security (well at least one) are actively trying to scam people for money. So a few days ago I was using a far away cubicle in a quiet corner where there is no passing traffic. I was very discrete in taking something so there is no way security saw or heard me doing anything ‘wrong’. Then when I came out he was waiting for me and said “give me your drugs”. I had a viagra pill in my wallet so gave him that and he looked at it and seemed confused as it probably wasn’t what he was expecting. He immediately saw I had a 50e note in my wallet and said give me the 50e or do you want me to call the police? I mildly protested at the amount for a few seconds and then he said “okay give me 30” and he pulled out a 20 note and we swapped. He just wanted to get the exchange over quickly.

So maybe I was doing something wrong and got off quite lightly. I’m not protesting innocence BUT I am 100% convinced he stood there waiting for me as he knew he could make some quick cash and it was a quiet corner where none of his colleagues or other customers would see what he was doing. Maybe one of his colleagues was on lookout but I didn’t see anybody else watching. Usually they are fairly lax in Ushuaia but maybe end of season they want to fleece people more. Fair enough if I was doing something openly and got caught but I wasn’t so feel a little scammed. Just be careful people, or make sure you hide stuff after using cubicles or take some cash so the scamming security don’t need to give you change :)

bullshit :rolleyes: but mate gave his drug..
u still can claim u didnt know that drug was there if u get caught ?
