IBIZA 2004 - Some observations, How was it for you??...

Ibiza 2004 then. Different for you? It was for me and a few of my friends who I go out there with each year.

The island was without a doubt, quieter this year. Strangley certain club nights were more busier than ever, probably due to live pa's from those such as P Diddy and Tommy Lee, both of who made appearances at Erick's ever popular Subliminal night over at Pacha, a firm favourite with many.

At the end of last season I started to ask some questions and started to get a bit worried about where Ibiza was currently heading. Back then the latest noise pollution laws was the main issue that I was concerned about.

In the last quarter of 2003 the Ibizan Goverment announced its plans to adopt a stricter policy (check this out for more info) and to 'get tough' on drinking crowds and holiday makers.

About a month after there was then the alcohol clampdown which prohibted shops from selling alcohol from midnight to 8am. Something I thought would affect Wipps greatly but they seemed to be doing rather well despite the fact. (and that there was ways around it ;) )

Cut forward to this year;

 The alcohol clampdown did take place and san antonio's west end was very quiet compared to previous years

 'Bar Crawls' were banned and a clampdown on pr staff was enforced.

 Space kept its terrace :P (THANK GOD) as it was for the last year.

 DC10 had a problem towards the end of the season :( .

Bora Bora had to stop playing its music in mid sept and faces the possibility of not being allowed to play any next season  . Which came as a MASSIVE shock to many of us despite hearing of complaints from the local residents early on in the season

All in all. Ibizas goverment this year has been all mouth and action. :spank: I just wish they'd give Bora Bora another chance. Bora Bora and DC10 are (IMO), under pressure from 'the 7' as are any new club night or venture which might threaten the door numbers of the already established club nights.

The clubs are clamping down a lot but also starting to annoy more clubbers. Taking cameras off people as they enter the venue, then charging them to store it, rising drinks prices, higher entry prices and then shorter club times with lower music levels isn't exactly the best customer service. But still they get away with it as people will continue to come and pay.

Ibiza's all about letting go, but all the restrictions and clamps downs are starting to put a downer on that slightly. Ibiza and New Yorks' policys seem to be alike in where they are going. Ive heard people come back as usual buzzing, but also more negative comments this year as well, even talks of boycotting clubs! shows how some clubbers are getting more frustrated about how they're treated and the way the scene seems to be going..

I myself had another fanf***ingtastico year! :) :D .

I certainly hope you all made the most out of Bora Bora, DC10 and the Space terrace. 8)

Im not a writer so this is prob all scatty as, and I know a lot of it has been covered before but now the season is coming to and end;

What about you lot? What's your opinions. Did any changes affect you? Did you even notice any?
Am I just thinking about this too much again?

What can you all see for 2005? Will Ibiza be Ibiza without the Space Terrace and without Bora Bora!?

I can imagine what the last generation went through now when they put roofs on ku and amnesia!

i'm gonna do a review myself, but for the time being, all i can say is that this summer was the best season i've had yet.

some awesome nights, awesome djs, awesome atmosphere.

but i am very worried about what the current government, and what has happened in the past few days. In all aspects, not just clubbing the outlook for next coming years dosen't look that bright.

here comes the paranoia?

Are we getting old?

Its going to happen mate. We're going to be one of 'them' who says 'its not as good as it used to be' (sorry James)

p.s- I hope you had your trainspotting cap on for the Sasha sets Rob. I want tracklists! ;)

ahh, you have seen the light ;)

He is the daddy.

Going Fabric on Fri? Garnier and Mills! I might just have a heart attack (and possibly a sex wee  )

It was real quiet in our local town this year. Apparently its been the same in many holiday destinations this year and people attribute that to various different reasons. I still had a good time but the nights out when i didnt go clubbing werent half as good as last year. Its such a shame that bora bora has had to close up shop ('as we know it'). It was a credit to the island as far as clubbing was concened.

Things move on, people move on, nothing can stay the same for ever.......

Bora was good but now gone, it had a good run and who knows if it had still been going in 2 years people may have been moaning about it for whatever reason or you might have had to have paid to get in (Remember when DC10 was free  ) or who knows! It was best it stopped when it was at its peak so there are only good memories.

Everyone talks about how the big 7 are controlling the island and not allowing new things etc but WHO DOES ANYTHING ABOUT IT? WHO BACKS UP WHAT THEY SAY WITH ACTIONS? I.E - Boycotting clubs, not going to them etc? NO ONE, well no one from this site anyway unless someone wants to tell us about it?

What about places like Underground which is also free and not too expensive for drinks? I was there for Craig Richards the other Thursday and it's such a top venue.

Oh and events like Sunday Best and nastydirtysexmusic?

The spirit of Ibiza will live on!

i've got a wedding on sat..

Mills and Garnier are on THURSDAY night! I'm going then staying in london for the weekend to go to all the open houses (only happens once a year, been meaning to do it for years), including going to the top of the gurkin 8)

I has a fantastic time this year and have not doubted for one second going next year as long as I have the money, health and friends to do so. Things have changed in the past, things will change in the future, there will be new good things and new bad things, and all news is good news is probably true, just people Bora Bora, Space and DC10 won't be the same next year as they are now, something else will be discovered or built, new drugs, new alcohol, new bars, new people, new hotels, new club-nights...when I first went in 1998 I had never heard of Bora-Bora or DC10; Cocoon, Subliminal, etc weren't the best nights, Paul Van Dyk was who? but Judge Jules was great, things move on. Ibiza still has the infrastructure and location to ensure it is the best place for clubbing, and the reputation, so people and parties will still go, and it will be the best in what is pretty much a monopoly...if there was another similar island in a similar location, then maybe it would die, but there is not.

Perhaps Ibiza is getting clubbed out? Tired .. weary of it all ..

I've missed out on loads, as I went to Ibiza (clubbing wise) in 1982 - mainly, Ku Club and Progress Bar in San Antonio ... and then M and I went back last year .. and this.

I so enjoyed Bora Bora this year .. mainly because I had my girls (Hols 12 and Han 16) with me, and I wanted to include them .. it wasn't a "clubbing" holiday.

BUT .. if it has to stop .. then at least I've done it ... Things have to move on .. just glad I got there before it did.

Did I miss something? Is the Space Terrace not going to be around in 2005 :?:

This is a little depressing. I am starting to plan my first trip to Ibiza for next year because I will finally have the money and time next summer. The three things I am looking forward to the most are DC10, Space, and Bora Bora. Well, I will have a blast either way.
