Darren Emerson’s Underwater hits up Ibiza for it’s second year residency on the island.
The opening party is on June 22nd with Darren Emerson, Tim Deluxe and Layo and Bushwacka! With the Global Room and Pacha Terrace hosted by Radio 1’s Trevor Nelson – who will EXCLUSIVELY hold a ‘Rhythm Nation’ residency every week on the island with Underwater.
Emerson and Deluxe will both be weekly residents. Spain’s Wally Lopez and Brixton boys Mutiny will be monthly Underwater residents.
“Last year couldn’t have gone better for us, the main room was rocking every week and Trevor and Westwood were a big pull for us in the back room. Deluxe is going to be playing more regularly this year because I’m busy with my album and, last year, Ibiza killed me doing it every week! Plus we’ve Wally again and we’ve got Mutiny as residents to support their album. Good to see Trevor coming back again, it makes sense. It worked out really well the first year. I know it’s because he loves my roast potatoes… ” – Darren Emerson
Trevor Nelson will be, for the first time ever, exclusively hosting the Pacha Terrace AND the Global Room every week with his Rhythm Nation parties…
“It’s long overdue. I’ve been holding off doing anything in Ibiza for the last ten years. I finally succumbed last year when Underwater bought me over for the first time to play at Pacha. I sampled it and was blown away by the reception I received, when approached this year I decided I would love to do a residency.
I’m going to do a variety of things with it. The Global Room is going to be proper R’n’B and Hip Hop, and the Terrace, which I’ll be playing on before the Global Room, will be an eclectic mix of my favourite music - new school, old school classics, everything - I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll also be doing two extra special main room parties in August, DJing, with guests before the Underwater boys take over. That will be something.
What I love about Ibiza is the crazy people. Its like a great classic film you just have to go and see it. I’m going out there with an open mind; it’s the only way to do it… For me, it’s not about the music; it’s what I represent. Coming to Ibiza is a big deal; it’s been a bastion of dance music for decades. I know people play r’n’b out there in fits and sparks but this is the first time on this scale.
It really worked with Underwater last year, both crowds mixed really well and there was a really good energy. I think it’s wrong to assume that most people only like dance or only like r’n’b. Turning back the clock 15 years you could hear it all together… Ibiza is the only place in the world, now, where you can truly work like that. You’re mixing people from the old skool, who can listen to all kinds of music, with the eager, new skool who come to the island and want to experience every walk of music. When I went into the main room last year, I was actually really feeling it, most Urban boys don’t like house, I do. Tim Deluxe is a hot DJ and Darren, I’ve known for years, they’re good people. It’s a good mixture.” – Trevor Nelson
Underwater was the first to bring both Trevor Nelson and Tim Westwood to the island last year bringing house and hip-hop together. This year the label is taking it one step further.
“I was really pleased Trevor came to us wanting to do a weekly after only one show last year. The impact both him and Westwood had on Underwater last year was immense. It was like a breath of fresh air – people being able to really enjoy different sounds in every room in Pacha… We’ve always pushed sound genre’s – Darren Emerson with Erick Morillo and now we’re going to put Trevor in the main room twice in August. The crowd in Ibiza is so open, I think the energy of the night will be amazing” – Amy Thomson (Underwater)
Underwater will host pre-parties at Café Mambo, whilst Nelson will host his own Rhythm Nation pre-parties at Café Savannah.
Underwater’s main room guests throughout the summer so far include Groove Armada, Lottie and missdemeanours, Layo and Bushwacka!, Paul Jackson, Sneak will host two ‘Sneak Beat’ parties and Circus versus Chibuku will hold two exclusive parties in August – bringing in the hottest and diverse DJ talent and entertainment, plus residents Darren Emerson, Tim Deluxe, Wally Lopez and many, many more TBC.
Underwater will be at Pacha, Ibiza every Tuesday from June 22 to September 21.
