I never post about football

on here but I have to say what a cracking game last night.

I really didn't expect that result. Am very, very happy this morning ;) The best I've seen Chelsea play for a long while 8)

one thing that shocked me and upset me and well quite frankly..........made me a little sick was the way in which the fans' flag waving was staged. (i'm presuming they were giving away flags for free or put them on people's seats - cos its impossible to get so many people having exactly the same flag)

this is not what football support is about, thats like some PR exercise, its false, for show only.........is that somehow meant to represent the chelsea support.8O

the whole point of a scene like that, is that the flags should all be different, dissimilar, unique, etc, etc. that people are bringing a little piece of what their club means to them to the game in a show of support (so john brings his scarf/flag from when we played celtic, tom from v barcelona, dave from milan, jessy from wigan and so on)

i am aware football has become like a mass production industry but i never once thought the fans themselves would do so, nor to such an extent.

It's not first time I've seen it. It doesn't look like an spontaneus suporting act, but it's fine. At barça basketball matches we get freebies, flags, scarfs and lots of supporting gadgedts in most games. It's endless fun if the game is boring

maybe i'm just spoiled but it doesn't sit right with me.

anyway, well done chelsea, some superb individual performances, (essien, claude, drogba, fullbacks), a well deserved victory.

I didn't get it til after 9pm after Spanish and I was greeted by Tom with the biggest happiest smiliest face in the world :D and a very very mardy Ferd  ;)

I love that word "mardy"

I don't know if it's a northern word cos when I moved down here nobody knew what it meant but now Tom uses it in his everyday conversation

Anyway I'd never seen poor old FHFHFHFH 'mardy' last night - it probably didn't help that Tom kept telling him that Barcelona were going to struggle to get thru to the next round at this rate  ;)

I heard it the first time being spoken by peeps in Halifax so yeah, I think it is a northern saying. They used to say "got bag on" as well to mean getting the hump :D

I think by the time you visit you'll be the only one left who Ferd is speaking to  ;)

babs, i may leave you on saturday or sunday and go with Ferd to watch Barça-Villareal. Will you join us and sing the songs we teached you last year?
