Ok... background... I brought a new notebook computer back with me after visiting the parents in the States for the holidays. That meant my old notebook immediately became the wife's property and her old notebook (which was mine 4 years ago) reverted to my ownership.

So, I put the old one on a table and attached all kinds of crap to it (WiFi router, printer, back-up hard drives, DVD/CD-burner, etc.) and set up a home network so that we have access to it and the Internet from either of the other two computers.

The other day I had a brain flash - bought a long cable to go from the stationary computer to the stereo system. Then I set up WinAmp on that computer with a plug-in that lets me access it from any other computer using Internet Explorer. Now I can sit in the living room or the kitchen with my notebook and turn on tunes blasting through the whole apartment :D

How geeky is that?!! But it's so much fun!! I've started ripping my whole 800+ CD collection so that I can listen to any tune at any time without getting off my butt! :D :D :D

Only thing is, I can see the ripping process is going to take a while. I'm only as far as Tori Amos on night #2 (and yes, the CDs are in alphabetical order)

Good progress last night... I got all the way up to the B-52s :D

I also sat in the kitchen having a cig while reading the news online and turned on music on the stereo in the next room :-)

I wonder if I log into my computer via the Internet on my phone if I could turn on music while not home... that would be killer... totally freak out the missus 8O
