How reliable are the banks?

OK, so we're being charged, but are you charged more when you withdraw cash with VISA rather than with Maestro/Cirrus ??

Hi 8)

When i was out in Ibiza in July i took travelers cheques , Euro's and my credit an debit card. Always take a range of ways to get money for security.

My boyfriend used the cash machines with no problems.

the charges vary between card providers, some will charge you a fee for each with drawal, others make their money by offering a lower exchange rate. I found the charges for using a visa/mastercard in the ATM varied from 1.5% to 2.75 depending on the card I used - it's boring but if you have more than 1 card read the terms and conditions before you go to see which one offers the best rate. Using a cash card rather than a credit card will probably encourage you to stay within budget as you can only take out how much money you actually have, though the credit card is great for those expensive impulse purchases. Also, try and make sure you pay off your balance as soon as you get home as the credit card interest rate is extortionate for cash advances, and the interest is usually applied from the date of the withdrawal rather than your statement date.

Sorry for waffling on... Hope this helps

Sorry to drag this topic back from the past but here goes.

Staying in Es Cana in 2 weeks and this relates to using ATM machines, does anyone know if they accept Cirrus/Maestro cards (Bank Of Scotland, etc) and are there many machines in Es Cana?

There are ATMs in Es Cana - one by the car hire place near the Miami/Coral Playa complex and another near the Es Cane apartmentos 50 metres along from Charlies in the harbour - no doubt there are others but I haven't searched them out and there are loads in Santa Eulalia about 4k away - fear not, if you have money in an account you can get to it.

Euro Traveler's Checks

Does anyone know if there is a charge to get cash if I'm carrying traveler's checks denominated in Euros?
