How bad is it?

I was at Space for Carl Cox the other night and didn't notice any intrusive inspections etc. Infact the bouncers were almost farcically polite.

peoople jump on the 'ibiza's going downhill' bandwagon and it spirals out of control... last year it was the 'ridiculous police presence everywhere' and this year the 'ibiza's not the same with the time changes'... its a load of ****, fair enuff im yet to go this year but im well looking forward to it and last year was no different to the yrs b4 so just stick ur holiday plans and do them... i guarantee 99 times outa 100 if u hadnt read these forums then u wudnt even no there were any changes... obviously apart from turning up to DC10 and finding that closed then swanning off to Space to find it opens later haha

Other than bora bora i found the island to be exactly the same, no stricter than usual. My sadness comes from Bora Bora being my favourite place to chill/dance/hav a laugh/meet new ppl etc.

You will still have a wicked time in ibiza guaranteed.

It's good to see that others on this forum feel the same way as I do. Yes, there have been some changes but Ibiza is still as good as ever. I just came back for my 7th year in a row and I would have to rank it as one of the top trips as of yet. Of course there will always be security present no matter where you go, its the same thing here at the Space in Miami, but here in Miami they will hand you to the cops if caught (not good). So stop complaining, get over it, get some friends, and head over to the most amazing place in the world. All this negativity for the 2008 season is really starting to get under my skin.

I think I need to stop reading Spotlight because lots of things are pretty negative and seem to be on a downer.

I'm still planning on going in September and will report back then.

I know some people too who have never been and want to go this year or next and I worry that they will never get the 'magic' of what it was.

Of course I could go in September and have a blast!

Anyway, i'm no help here am I?

Good attitude! I feel the same way. And I have always thought that you really have to "make your own fun". Yeah, go just about anywhere (except maybe private/secret parties" and there will be security. It's just the way it is these days thanks to drug law crackdowns and violence (ie. guns and knives), but overall you gotta make your own fun, even if it is on a budget. I would still come back to Ibiza in a heartbeat if i could, despite the negative reports, but my budget this year just won't allow it. Guess i'll have to take Miami this year and go to Space there! ;)

I’ve written some negative stuff about the changes myself this year. I was there in June and have decided to go back in for a couple days in August so it’s safe to say I had a great time. What I have noticed compared to earlier years is that

  • There are less people –no need to wait for statistics to prove this (I’d say this is a plus for July and August visitors

  • There are more police –but not more than I probably hadn’t noticed it had I not been aware of it

  • Bora Bora is different but still okay –especially if you’ve never been there before this year (but no music sucks a lot of course)

  • The clubs have done a great job over the winter and are better than ever!

Ibiza is still by far the best destination for a holiday where you can also do a little clubbing.

nobody has ever said that there are not less people here. the moot point is the reason there are less folks about. some would have you believe that the main reason is that there are restrictions on club opening hours - some (myself included) think that there are a variety of reasons.

The main reason, without doubt, is cost. And not the price of drinks or club entry either. If the UK used the Euro as our currency I have no doubt numbers would be as normal. Flights cost more (oil price), accomodation costs more (strong Euro/weak pound). The dollar is in a terrible state so that must effect numbers from the US too. Coupled with the general state of the economy, people are giving holidays in general a miss this year.

Yes some people are negative on here, but they are mainly those of us who've been going for years and have seen a change from "the good old days". People who are new to Ibiza love it as much as we did when we first went cos they've got nothing to compare it to. I still love the place, I arrive tomorrow along with a first timer, even if I prefer how it used to be.

I've been subjected to a search in Space car park which wasn't a strip search yet was over the top. Put it this way, if I'd have had something on me, they'd have found it and I was pretty pissed off about it for what, 10 mins? Didn't spoil my day, but then I can see how it would with some.

All I would say is my guess is the people who are strip searched are acting suspicious or maybe even have previous. Don't carry anything to the clubs, that's my advice, especially space.

So they didn't laugh at your willy then?

if someone told you to jump off a bridge would you?
