Leviatán was my first Auster book.

Moon Palace is amazing, I was totally anxious when the character was living in the park 8O

DBC Pierre - Vernon God Little

Yann Martel - Life Of Pi

Geoff Dyer - Yoga for People who can't be Bothered

I read "love in the time of cholera" - was that by García Márquez?

I think it was. I'm reading A Passge to India at the moment. To be fair it ain't lighting my fuse yet. I think it needs some more work.

Martin Amis is great though.

A book that came highly recommened to me was "The Alchemist" which started well but it ended up losing itself up it's own bottom towards the end.

Any reccommendations for a good holiday read?

Yes, it's Garcia Marquez. Did you like it Mark? :D

The ALchemist and any Coelho books are really bad, it's all demagogy, you can predict the end in the second line and it's all that cheap pseudo philosphy. But he has a great succes tho

Yeah I did like it . My mother is a huge fan and she gave me the book.

You've summed up Coelho perfectly. "Cheap Pseudo Philosophy".

I may give "A hundred years of solitude" a try after your comments. :)

Me thrice on Coelho (sp?). I have to have books to read on holiday yet I went without for two days in Ibiza once because 'The Alchemist' was all I had left and havin g read half of it I decided to get drunk to forget it. Dross.

I still love John Fowles' 'The Magus'.

It is the favourite book of a few people I know so I thought I'd give it a crack. It is a great book but, without giving the plot away, it requires a pinch of suspension of disbelief as to why the protagonist allowed himself to be subjected to so much.

One of my favourites is A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole, a real comic masterpiece. Unfortunately, the author committed suicide before the book ever reached the light of day. However, his mother discovered the manuscript and succeeded in getting it published -- it went on to win the Pulitzer Prize!

Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides. Pulitzer don't remember the year.
IT's the same writer thatn Virgine suicides. IT's an amazing story about a hermaphrodite.
It's a must read ;)

Funky - I suggested this before!!

It's cool you like Martin Amis - I'm a big fan, especially Money, The Information and London Fields.

If you like him, have you read Lolita by Nabokov? Amis was really influenced by his work. Lolita is one of the best novel's I've ever read - the language is amazing. Go out and buy it today, you won't be disappointed.

Nish - I've got the DVD of UK Students House 4 to trade if you want...? 8O   ;)
