House Nightmare!

....and no I'm not talking about hed kandi nights at your local pub.

Bought a house a few months back, it's this huge old listed georgian townhouse. I bought it at a sizable discount cos the owners were moving to italy and needed a quick sale. It was our "dream home" with big gardens and apple trees and hidden door ways etc. and the missus almost threatened to leave me if i didn't get it! Plus if it went on the open market it would have been out of our reach.

Unfortunately I hadn't sold my other house in time but i thought fck it. it'll sell before long as i had three offers in the first week.

So i went for it. Taking on both mortgages at once 8O

This week the buyers for my old house pulled out a week before completion. Leaving me knackered - no chance of selling before christmas now...twats! it was a right blow - we knew we had taken a risk but we've always flew by the seat of our pants so going into it wasn't a big deal.

So me and missus thought well, we'll tighten our belts until we sell it. And eat robins red breasts and holly for xmas dinner.

Sitting at home last night (in the new house) the roof sprung a leak in about five different rooms pssing in in every direction.

So now i need a new roof immediately! arrrghhh!

So just when you think it can't get any worse. It does!!!

with houses and cars and PCs, i've just come to expect the worse and then i'm pleasantly suprised when the boiler only packs up twice a week during winter.

chin up mate!!:D ;)

Oh nooooooo, nightmare

Do you know why the buyer pulled out of your old house?? I had that happen to me a few years back with an old flat and they pulled out a week before exchanging  We lost the one we'd been buying cos we didn't get a buyer on my old place quick enough  I'd already been out and bought so much stuff for the new place that I then had to spend the next week taking it all back to the shops

There's still a chance you might get sale before Christmas, have you got estate agents back on it, if buyers aren't in a chain they could be in in 6 weeks and you can have a turkey for Christmas ;)

No doubt it seems like a complete and utter mare at the mo but I'm a big believer that everything happens for a reason and once it's sorted I can guarantee you'll laugh about it in years to come ;)

Good luck and I hope everything sorts out for you.

Edited for ya.

Did your surveyor give the house a clean bill of health?

The surveyor said the roof would need work undertaking. But to be honest, I've always bought old terraced houses (why oh why) and they always say the same things on the survey to cover themselves - usually it costs a grand to patch up! These guys were obviously spot on. Being a smartarse i thought i knew where i stood!! How wrong!

Cheers Babs / Grego! I've got my fingers crossed. The buggers who pulled out had even measured up for the furniture and were ringing me every night. then the next day the estate agent said they'd rang and withdrew. and wouldn't return our calls. they also know the position i was in.

Haha I'm the new Hannah! Woe is me!

Might start a blog and fall out with grego...

While you were typing this did a praying mantis come in the room and eat it´s own head?

Why do people do this  Apart from messing up other people's plans they'd obviously got so far down the buying route that they're going to be stung with solicitors bills etc  Tw@ts

about time there was more certainity in that part of the process..........i mean think of the waste/inefficiency of getting to near exchange and then it falling through.

need to illegalise gazumping in england too, or at least how it is in scotland.

...And I can see the racist undertones already!

"Now I'm no racist, but haven't I always said you could never trust Italians? Bloudy sneaky eye-tie wop bastads leavign me a house with a dodgy roof...."

Hahaha!

:D :D :D

I'm either laughing at these comments or I've completely lost it.

Must go someone's fingering my goods.......

Mark, I suggest you delete all these negative comments, there are lots of people inspired by your story - stay strong.

Btw, how's the non-smoking going in these times of stress??

Sorry to hear about this Mark, fingers crossed you get it sorted by xmas

At least eventually you'll still be living in your dream house, despite the pain now :)

Gits - I feel for you Mark i really do - there's nothing worse than having to deal with something that is completely out of your hands and there is nothing you can do about it - just think, what goes round, comes around and they will get their just desserts!!!

Fingers crossed you get a buyer before Christmas - what about short term renting of your property say 6 months just to tide you guys over???

Don't even go there about buying and selling houses!! Rob and I are currently going through it and this is the worst buying/selling i have ever had to endure. I am not sleeping, not eating and am running on air. There have been constant problems along the way and I am getting really cheesed off with it all.

3 years ago my sellers pulled out the day before we exchanged. I was devasted...but i found the place i am in now (which i am now trying to sell) and i think it was better then the one i was trying to buy in the first place - so Barbie is definetly right in everything happening for a reason. I am big believer of this. I would just like to see the purpose behind every problem we are having now !?!
