Hotel discussion thread [2017/2018]

Thanks for your input folks.

We drove over tonight, and after reading a few trip advisor reviews I was partly expecting a poor first impression with the receptionist.

Pleased to say that trip advisor is completely wrong... The receptionist on duty couldn't have been more helpful. (Maybe it was the (probably very bad) attempt at basic greetings in Spanish that helped), but we were allowed (unsupervised) to view both a standard and a superior room.

Superior rooms... WOW! just WOW!

we've booked for four nights, half board in a superior garden/sea view from Friday until our departure on Tuesday. It gives us something to look forward to and what I suspect is going to be a great last few days and hopefully lasting love of the island for the Mrs.

She's already letting me look at dates for the week of my 40th next June!!!

You need her permission to browse the Internet?

I can see who wears the trousers in that relationship!

Only joking mate, have a good one. I stayed at the Abrat two years ago and found it spot on for everything. Good area too.

Anyway got to go, our lass has just told me to get off that bloody Ibiza forum again!

Cheerio. :(

- Aguas de Ibiza in Santa Eulala - from 5 to 5-star grand luxe.
Walked past this hotel a number of times whilst in St Eulalia, one random night they were banging tunes out from what we presumed was the roof terrace/pool.

What is the stylish building across from it?

The same article also says Del Mar in San Antonio (the one at the bottom of del mar street, behind Pussycat) will be updated from 2 to 4 stars too!

i have history with this hovel!

due to procrastination on the part of a friend - three of us booked relatively late so this was the only affordable option
got there early hours of the morning, last stop (naturally)
we were at the side of the building, on the ground level - no terrace/balcony - bedroom & bathroom - due to the shape of the building, the bathroom was almost bigger than the sleeping part

three of us - two single beds and a couch bed - with no room to extend it (luckily one of the group is short so could sleep across it)

some issues:

- sink had no plug, had to shave out of a jug
- cooking gas cannister was empty & not connected.
- bed slats were missing to the extent that my mate lay down on arrival and sunk to the floor
- no room for clothing/cases storage
- hole in wall for vent at window was not filled - big rain shower meant water pissing into room
- light switch was actually sparking when pressed

complained to reception but only the light switch was sorted

the pool area was an ok sized pool with a tiny terrace around it
one day a drunk from the flats across the road was sitting there, almost comatose spilling baileys over the terrace
& pool was clearly not cleaned as burst inflatibles etc were still there the next day

definitely needed improvement!!!

Aye but at what cost? Lick of paint and some on-trend furniture = 4 times the price? I think the rickety roach motels are an essential part of the ibiza virgin (*or the costcutting early middle-aged raver) experience.

I take the point about cost but living conditions should have a minimum standard imo. And in my experience some of the accommodation I’ve seen doesn’t meet that standard and is unsafe and unhealthy. There is no need for it.

Like roaches, cost is an issue across all accommodation types. Looking to prices for next year I see little is changing so far, if anything accommodation and flights are more expensive next year for a comparative holiday for my Mrs and I.

Two families we have got to know over the years have bailed from 2019 after 10 years. One of them are heading to Greece; flights and self catering, for half the price of their Ibiza hotel alone. The price increased for next year and they just said enough was enough. A couple more who have usually booked by now including one from mainland Spain are still undecided for the same reason.

We are at a similar point. The prices are more expensive next year than they were for last year for us to have a comparative holiday. It’s always been expensive and I accept that. The pull of Ibiza for us has always been the music, escapism and environment. But frankly all three of these things are heading south in a major way for us. We have reached the point where we could do New York for a similar all in cost and have a better time. And that is really disappointing after 20 plus years of visiting. I don’t want to be one of those people who says it isn’t what it was or it was better back in the day.

After this year we were led to believe that the island hoteliers, airlines and hostelries may have had a reality check for next year. I see very little evidence of that.

Only a 10-15 minute walk to a small Eroski or a larger Suma supermarket up on the main road (Agusti).
Not sure if he still has it, but the old owner of Hostal La Torre took on the little bar nearly opposite, to the right next to La Sirena (which you probably will also find handy ;))
Cheers don..bringing our 12year old and 10yr cousin who was only ever in Ibiza when her mum was few months pregnant with us 11years ago,so she was there but not officially.
We sent that picture of the wooden cocks at La Sirena to Mrs mum asking would she like some Spanish jamon home, only when we got home she realized what they were..

It's our kids easter break they get 2 weeks off..
Good man. Sadly we are restricted to clubbing peak season. A change this year may do us good though and hopefully relight the fire in my belly for the island. Either that or I will need some gaviscon
