Does anyone know if there is a proper, Valenciano-style horchateria on the island anywhere?

I'll be mainly in PDB/Ibiza, but I'd cross the island for good horchata....

Tho I suppose it'd be "orxata" in ibicenco?

Thanks,
Matthew

my favourite horchaterías are torres tallón (between pacha and grial) and los valencianos on the port!! :D

Thanks for the tips! :)

Either way, I guess Eivissa ciutat is the place to go for horchata, is it?

Si! Y la fue muy buena!

I even got some of the "supermarket horchata" as a pre-DC10 drink a few days later. Not quite the same but still good.

What's the bar directly to the left of the seating area as you face the horchateria? There was the most ridiculously good looking girl twirling around things - lights maybe - on strings and throwing them up in the air in front of it as I drank at about midnight.

Not an unattractive girl.

To be honest, it could have been called Hey Matthew Yeah You Look Over Here and I still wouldn't have noticed.

My mind was preoccupied with midriff.

Believe me, IMO the supermarket horchata is crap in comparison to the real one. The former tastes like milk with sugar. :? Did you realize of the big difference?

I'm glad you're a big fan of horchata (me too, hehe). Still haven't been to the cradle for horchata Alboraya in Valencia?

I was taken to a proper Valenciana horchateria when in Valencia, I can't remember the name, tho it was in the city centre, not in Alboraya.

The horchata there was amazing! It made what I had at Los Valencianos seem like supermarket horchata.

Strangely enough, I didn't have a single orange the entire time I was in Valencia....

Then next time you come here try "Agua de Valencia" in a night bar. It's a typical alcoholic (but very smooth) drink with orange juice and some more ingredients. It's f*cking yummy!!

If you want to try one of the best horchata when in here try to go to the town of Alboraya (Northern outskirts of the capital) to the 'horchatería' Daniel. It's easy to find and is very commercial, I mean it's the one most visited by tourists who love horchata.

Shame I didn't know about it before! I have a bottle of Hierbas that I brought back, along with a lemon-flavoured Italian liquor (bought in Italy). The Italian one I drank right away, but the Hierbas I've been saving for a special drinking event. ;)

Does this sound like it?

Agua de Valencia

Ingredients
1/4 liter Cava Spanish Champagne
3/4 liter Orange Juice
1 dl Cointreau
50 g Sugar

Looks tasty to me!

I have had horchata mexican style many times year round.

Are they different?

(we are talking about rice milk aren't we? ya know that delicious drink made out of rice with hints of cinnamon?)

Worlds apart. Like the difference between North American and British milkshakes, if that helps.

Central American horchata is made from rice, whereas Spanish horchata is made from "chufa" which is tiger-nut.

The rice version is alright but less thick and not quite as tasty, imo. Then again, I've never had it from a proper Central American horchateria, so maybe it's an unfair comparison.

Hmmmmmmmm...........

Horchata is a popular drink in Mexico as well.
Rice style.

But I would be interested to try it the tiger nut way too.

I never heard of that type of horchata made with rice :!:

So I cannot give an opinion on that, but I only say that the one with chufa (a funny name because it's also the name little Spaniard kids use for little d1ck) is excellent, very refreshing and very addictive (in some way, hehe).

Really tiger vic?!!!

That is funny!

Now I really would like to try the tiger nut way!

I can tell you from experiencee though........the rice style way is delicous!
