when you get there, just after customs, theres a HK Tourist Board Desk. Ask them about the Octopus Card (Equivalent to The Oyster Card). You'll probably need to have at least 200$HK plus the cost of train fare to/from the airport. You can use this card on the MTR (Underground)/KCR(Overground), plus any stores like 7 eleven to pay for stuff. Also, you can pick up a map at this desk, plus guides about tours etc...
Cost of using MTR between Kowloon and HK Island is pricey, try and plan your day! (or ride the Star Ferry)

for souviners (opens from 11am - best to go about 3pm (or in the evening cos the ambience of the place is more "alive" when most of the stalls are open) - get yr "Vitton" hangbags there.

u can haggle at least 25% off asking prices.
Also around that area are 3/4 streets which run parallel from each other, east of Nathan Rd on the map above... one is lined with sporting good storee, another electrical (haggle!), and on the southeast end of that area are loads of shops selling motoring goods (if u want really wacky airfreshners go!

)
also on that map is temple market (ive never been - but go at night).

Not much going on north of Austin Rd. Concentration of stores/malls along Nathan Rd (usual tourist traps!). nothing east of Chatham Rd South
Head towards Harbour City (HUUUUUGE Mall) high end stores, down to "high st"

Seafront by the Star FerryPier/Clock Tower
8PM Nightly, theres a crazy laser and music show when the buildings along the harbour go mental), "Avenue of the Stars HKs version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Museum (i've never been in).
and thats about it... rest of the sights depends on where u go.

- Peak Tram to Victoria Peak for the views of Kowloon, and bits of the NT (depending on how thick the smog is!) best time to go is about 2hrs before sunset to watch day turn into night.
Stanley (on the south side of the island)

Lantau Island... visit the worlds largest sitting Buddah at Po Lin Monestery. If you go, have a veggie lunch

- theres a hostel around that area, which, ive read allows you to see stunning sunrises. (ill dig out info for ya when i get home).

If you have time, and can find a guide/excursion, you can also cross over to the border city of Shenzhen... but keep your wits about you if do go...mugging central! and if u can... go get a massage... 4hrs of pampering for under a 78$HK (i do tip at least 150$HK, cos the girls get about 50p and hour...) - you wont regret it!
