nice pix ste!!

(who was that model anyway?)

she was part of a german team who asked us if marli could be in some photos. that silvery top appeared to be the centre of the stylist's atention. i was surprised when they didn't ask me to be in a few shots. we were all in a bar in soller at the time.

 i hope they paid for the drinks at least! ;)

Just back from Mallorca (both of us with a bad cough or covid or god knows ugh)

Brief thoughts >> The island is super nice this time of year. Outside Palma, it didn’t feel overrun other than by thousands of fluorescent cyclists hogging the mountain roads. (Should’ve got an automatic, duh)

Went with Autos Mallorca in the end. Excellent service and we got an economical hybrid Fiat Panda. Stayed at the Hostal Alma in Alcúdia which was cheap, but soft mattress and nasty drain smell in bathroom. Mozzies in April too!

Zero music/horseplay, esp with my mum joining us for part of it. V different energy to Ibz. The Catalan sounds different. Even the fincas look different. You sense that Mallorca is to Ibiza what Sao Paolo is to Rio. Mallorca feels more like the mainland, more serious, industrious, at times I felt like we were in Valencia or Girona. Wild generalisations of course based on 4 days’ impressions, so seasoned visitors, feel free to shoot me down 😂

Top food: El rincón de Paqui y Rafa (Alcúdia). All homemade. Run by friendly andaluces. You can always tell someone from Sevilla. The greatest lisp east of the Missisippi.

Highlights: the Robert Graves house & garden in Deia is beautiful. You can see why a poet moving there from England would’ve found paradise pre-war. The sea near Sóller is worth checking out. Calm, ideal for paddleboarders (ez Kimajy). Palma had its moments too like the Arab Baths, but the old town was pretty much wall to wall tour parties and it was knackering tbh. Occasional signs/graffiti that locals have had enough but o’wise no overt hostility (apart from a woman who tried to kill us in Sóller - driving was a bit 👀 at times). Ran into a military parade too in a main square in Palma, spotted a few fachas in watching crowd too. Hasty exit..

Overall, i’d say it’s ideal for a family escape, a romantic number or if you’re into outdoors. Go now or in autumn. Hasta luego Mallorca!
