Its a petition thread!!!

But in all seriousness... Dundee City Council made the Reading Rooms remove the boards which adorned the railings on the outside of the club. They came up with some bull**** nonsense about how the railings were listed like the building and the graffiti-ed boards which had been hanging there had to come down. Even though the boards hung over the railings and caused no damage to the railings themselves.

If you care about art and music and have a spare 30 seconds to kill, please sign the following petition to get the boards back up.

Feel free to get others to do the same. Your help is very much appreciated.

Personally Im a bit dubious about the effectiveness of petitions, particularly online ones ("BOYCOTT IBIZA" anyone?!). It seems people knock up petitions for any old reason these days. But this is one I hold pretty close to my heart. The Reading Rooms, and the promoters who use it, most of whom I consider friends, have practically transformed the nightlife in Dundee over the past couple of years. The garden acts as a chillout area, a place to meet and greet.

Not only did the boards act as a canvas for young artists, they also provided shelter and privacy from the outside world. Taking them down is completely pointless and serves no purpose whatsoever. If anything the boards protected the railings from the elements.

Im hopeful something can be done about it. Its a well loved venue, not just by the local community, by by bands, artists and djs who have played there over the years.

Any help is appreciated of course.

i'm missing something here. the council want to remove all that sh1te blocking the view of a classically elegant building, and you want us to try to stop them? the world's gone mad.

One man's elegance is another man's shi1te El Ste. It's a subjective thing.

amen to that. thank the lord that dundee's councillors are all grumpy old men too!

does dundee not have any urine scented underpasses which can be 'adorned' with such artwork?

Not so much as they did 20 years ago. The City has been cleaned up a lot. Which is why its even more important to protect outlets for this kind of creativity.
