Help me plan my partners 30th Birthday weekend...

Hi there, I'm bringing my partner to Ibiza for his 30th Birthday. We've never been before, so I'd love some help in making it one to remember!!

We're arriving on Friday 30 May, and staying at the Migjorn Apartments in Playa Den Bossa until Monday 2nd June.

First things first - clubbing! I've booked us tickets for Amnesia opening on the Saturday. I need ideas for Friday night, Sunday night, and possible daytime or evening things to do.

On the "possible" list for Friday night is Ocean Beach Club opening party, or Privilege opening party (slightly worried I may go in too hard with Privilege and not make it through the weekend?!)

Possible for Sunday? Maybe DJ Mag at Space, with Bora Bora before?

I'm also waiting to see what Gatecrasher comes up with on Friday and Sunday, as that might be another option.

I'm considering chartering a boat for 3.5 hours sunset trip along the coast, with water sports one day.

Can anyone give me any advise? What would be on your "to do" list if you wanted to make it a weekend to remember?? Places to eat, things to do, club nights, throw them all at me!!

It's nice to actually speak about this at last, I booked this in January and I can't speak to anyone about it, as I don't want the other half to find out! I'm hoping to get him to the airport before I tell him!
Thanks! :-)

I would have stayed in San Antonio, but each to their own.

Places to eat: If you want to go somewhere more up-market, Sa Capella is spot on and you get free Hierbas!

Sa Caleta Restaurant on Sa Caleta beach also does the best blind paella anywhere in the world, great for lunch.

If it is a first time, make sure you do Cafe Del Mar and surrounding bars for the sunset.

Pikes Sunday Roast is good on a Sunday with decent music to chill by the pool and drink cocktails.

Insane at Pacha last year was a great night on the Friday, doesn't say who is playing yet but a good option. Viva Warriors opening at Sankeys on the Sunday looks good or Solomun at Pacha.

well done regarding amnesia opening - this one is definitely not to be missed, no matter if it's the first or the umpteenth time on the island :-)

apart from that, clubbing-wise i'd try to hit pacha on either friday or sunday night, but i'd wait until line ups are out so you know a bit more what to expect. also be aware amnesia opening goes until 12 noon and the best hours are the ones in the morning so don't burn too early. as for privilege opening, normally also a really good night, but for your friday and sunday night i'd just wait and see which options are better (either insane at pacha or privi opening on fri and either dj mag at space or solomun+1 at pacha on sun).

make sure you get to explore ibiza while you're here. from playa d'en bossa you can get to many places by bus, but renting a car is always a good option. go to salinas, great beach and not too crowded yet at that time of the year (try sa trinxa). definitely spend an evening in ibiza town and walk up to dalt vila.

as DB said, watch the sunset. either in san antonio with all the sunset bars or if you like it quieter, head to cala conta for example. cala d'hort is also a must, best views on es vedra.

I hadn't really considered Pacha, I'll get that on the list and keep an eye out for their announcements for Friday and Sunday.
We'll definitely want to explore a bit, so I'm so grateful for your suggestions!! I'm thinking maybe we'll do Cafe del Mar and Sunset strip on the Saturday night before Amnesia and then catch the free bus over to the club (assuming it's running for the opening party). That'd give us a chance to do Ibiza town before Pacha.
Think I'll wait for some more info on Pacha and Gatecrashers nights and see what appeals! I'm massively grateful for your responses, I'm sure they'll help me to make the most of the time we have!

awesome to have such helpful responses - thanks!

:)

Playa den bossa is a much better location in my opinion :)! Good choice! Be sure to check out San Antonio for the sunset at Mambo (or any of the sunset strip bars) at some point though!

Get to bora bora! And check out las Salinas beach if you get the chance too!

Yeah like you said.... I would play it by ear and see who is playing nearer the time to decide on your club nights!

Don't worry if you don't fit absolutely everything in, I am pretty certain you will return! Have a great time, let us know how you got on! :)

Playa Den Bossa if you want to party with faux rich wide boys and girls. Not the Ibiza I prefer, but each to their own.

3 nights ?

If it were me on a first trip I would do 2 club nights and 1 bar evening/night.

e.g Your plan for Saturday - a sunset, then Amnesia maybe til as late as 12 the next day is a bit adventurous, thats a lot for the body even with "assistance"

If my flight was early enough on the Friday then I would stay on the beach/apt at PDB and visit a few bars at tea time, maybe BB but there are plenty of others that do one some nice early gatherings. I would consider rockin over to San An for the sunset either bus or taxi then sampling a few of the nicer bars there (dirks can assist you with those).

Sat - Salinas beach as previously mentioned, its not far in a taxi from pdb (why they dont do a bus from pdb i will never know?) then BB maybe in the eve before the curtain goes accross. Disco nap then a few bars then Amnesia but consider getting there 4-5am and push on through to mid morning.

Sun - daytime??? but Ibz town for pre-drinks, Pacha restaurant for a meal (midnight?) then into the club for the duration. Some say Pacha is a bit poncy but I think the meal/club combination is a must for the 1st timer, its free into the club if you eat at there (min spend reqd but its a no brainer). Stay til the end, its got something magical in there at the last 1/2 hour or so.

Exactly, each to their own so why try to put a downer on someone's excitement?

I always stay at pdb the beach is lovely at the far end, and more convenient for clubbing. Definitely rent a car if you can manage it between parking and visit Cala D'Hort and Cala Conta :)

just asking if you going to get time to sleep at all.don;t try to cram too much in the days your there.what you might pay for a car in that time your going to use it.get a bus or taxi.

Hmmm I dunno I'd say a car is cheaper that time of year than getting taxis around the beaches? I thought it was not far off 30 euros one way from pdb to San An. I paid less for one days car hire than 2 ways for a taxi last year in June. The only problem with cars is not being able to drink. You might not want to bother travelling around anyway with it being first time. I've never stayed at the Migjorn but I always peep through when I'm passing.. It looks very tranquil.

I would disagree with not trying to cram loads in - sleep it off when you're home, you will find you have more stamina out in ibiza ;)

Just noticed my typo in my earlier message I meant between partying not parking :)

Migjorn i reviewed it when it had its refit.very nice indeed.centre to all you need.1 min and your on the beach.yes but are you going to get your moneys worth out of car.looking at the things they want to do.your not going to get much out of it.and like you say drinking.half a beer and thats about it.you could get last bus back from san an from going to sunset bars.chartering a boat would cost you alot.there are boat trips from san an most of party boats.
thing is thats is if they get up early enough to fulfill the day. go with the flow i say.just hope weathers fine for you.

Not putting a downer on it, purely being informative. If you had booked to stay in Manchester but ended up in a motel in Moss Side rather than the Lowry at Salford, would you not want to know?

I think that's a rather unfair example when she's booked one of the nicer apartments in pdb! I've never been in but it looks very smart. I always peep through when I'm passing. And the beach in pdb is lovely at the bottom end... I tend to sunbathe outside sirocco during the day unless I'm going to a daytime party. Then in the evening to wherever the DJs I want to see are at (almost always in or around pdb). I don't do the whole Ushuaia thing myself but I enjoy walking past as it smells good . I'm not ready to do eating out at restaurants just yet perhaps when I am I will prefer the other side although I think if rather stay somewhere completely different. What are the attractions of San An for you @Dirk Bigler? I haven't been there to stay in 15 years just go over occasionally to Kumharas or visit family who are locals, so I don't know much about that area to be honest. I can only comment on pdb being more convenient for clubbing, ibiza town etc and nice beach (not the top end though lol).

I dunno @woodruffe you are probably right actually if they only have 3 days keep it simple! I do like taking a car for just one day and driving as many places I can and staying for an hour to take pictures, have a cocktail in Sunset Ashram go to Cala D'Hort, Salinas, Kumharas in the evening etc I just like to go and take it in for a bit then go somewhere else. It might be because in all the years and times I've been I only went anywhere other than a club about 2 years ago and I really enjoyed seeng all the different parts. I like taking pictures too.

Not knocking the hotel as I don't know it, just PDB in general. My analogy was more around PDB being the motel in Moss Side and San Antonio being the Lowry.

As for San Antonio, where do I start? Kumharas, Kama Sushi, Villa Mercedes for Paco, Tapas, Cafe Del Mar, Mambo, Savannah, Golden Buddha, Wips, Itaca, Ibiza Rocks, Tulp, the dodgems........I could go on.

I went to the sunset strip once and didn't think it was that great, I do love Kumharas though, I don't think Ibiza rocks would be my cup of tea. Eating is not important to me yet. The clubs I go to are closer or in pdb, and Ibiza town next door and I love the beach. I stay at Palm beach so I can drink my free drinks outside sirocco (or sands now) Not keen on the VIP culture - or at least I just don't get it - and how every time a beach bar starts having good parties they usually get shut down but everything else I love. The far end of the beach is lovely but as you do go further toward the centre and then up toward figuretas it definitely gets smellier

The first time I went to Ibiza with my friends was when I was 18 I stayed in San Antonio and loved it! But now I feel the West end is quite tacky, people being sick in the street and just not my kind of music! There isn't much on during the day except that ocean beach club which was full of posers when I went! Don't get me wrong, the sunset strip is amazing and I love that area and cafe mambo! But I find playa den bossa much nicer, closer to the clubs I like, party all day every day, bora bora, Sirrocco etc and met some great people from all over the world whereas San an was all British folk! No matter where you stay though it's still an amazing island and easy enough to get about :)

Playa Den Bossa has one of the highest homocide rates in the world, second only to San Pedro in Honduras. San Antonio has never ever had any recordings of murder and was recently voted the safest and coolest place to live in the world.

Wow, what a great way to get someone excited for their first trip to Ibiza! I find that hard to believe. According to a few sources your correct about San Pedro but I haven't seen playa den bossa in the top 50 anywhere?

The longer you say on the forum the more you'll learn of Dirks love for San An and dislike for PDB
