Hed Kandi a sell out?

I attented the same night as yourself Mezz & I was expecting Hed Kandi to be one of the sparkling highlights of my holiday & I was wrong... :(

I mean don't get me wrong it was an ok night but I never associate the word "ok" with Hed Kandi more like spankingly delicious & I just want more, more, more!!

I'm a major Hed Kandi fanatic & go anyway for a good fix of it, be it... Romford, Pacha, Sheffield & Brighton & perhaps my expectations were just too high but personally the crowd was no way even close to what I have come to expect from a HK night...

HK is usually full of the friendliest & most smiley people you could possibly I find & this time, that area was lacking serverely... I thought the music just did not flow consistently, which was incredibly surprising since it was the big kahuna chief himself down there... Mark Doyle!! 8O

Oh & I'm not even going to start on the HK dancers!!! Right my rants over now & I just cant wait for a good uk kandi night to restore my damaged Kanid faith...

To be honest it is still early season & I'm 'sure' it will come good - my friend said the opening HK night was more like a karoke session which she felt embarassed to be at but the following week was much, much better! just not amazing :D

i was at the hed kandi opening night and most of the people i spoke to at esvive on sunday thought the night bombed. what was going on with "the darkness" track. i was about 5 muswells downwind and when i heard that, it felt like i had been shot by an elephant gun.

then it got worse.

dont get me wrong, i love HK nights and i am trying to be constructive in my criticism, but a long weekend in the beef dont come cheap. guys you gotta give the punters what they want.

looking forward to getting out there in aug and sep.

oh and melt that feckin darkness track

not so kandi

my mate has just got back from ibiza and said hed kandi was terrible this year - was so disappointed as he was looking forward to it. he reckons he's had much better HK nights at bambu in brum . who would ever have thought......preferring birmingham to ibiza !! lol

Well not to sure about this one then. All I can say is I've really enjoyed the first three as the crowds have been really great and proper up for a party. :? :? :?

When any dj finishes his sets with 'White Lines' and last week 'Young MC' the damage those two have caused have been phenomenal. Only thing we're lacking IMO is a spot of Bear stage diving but with the size of me I don't think that'll be happening.

:P :P :P

matt,

hope you dont mind getting involved in an honest and open discussion here. spose it will be difficult cos we are talking about you and the guys' work. but a few people on this board have some gripes and groans. i really think that people here aint being negative out of spite or any other reason, but are commenting because HK knocks the socks off anything else, and we want that to continue.

personally, i have been to about 20 HK nights and IMHO the opening in ibiza wasnt up there with your usual high standards.

would appreciate your thoughts and comments. maybe some of the other guys can give some input.

if any of the other punters who are reading this lets be positive.

on the subject of the stage diving, maybe Doyley can do it naked with his cods covered in burning sambuca.

regards

I can add that El Divino have installed a limiter that has lowered the volume and the bass a lot (gotta have that for the funk people). It also makes the sound dip every now and then which can make the DJ sound like he or she is tweaking the filters in a very *not* cool way. Maybe the sound has improved since the opening party, but at least I had a big problem with this.

 Nice one El Divino! Anyone know why have they done this? Complaints from people perhaps?

Their soundsystem was pretty shit anyway so cant imagine how bad it must sound now!

Why cant Defected / Hed Kandi do their nites else where next season? if it wasnt for these two nites then i wouldnt even attempt to wander that side of the harbour.

It's sorted now (ish) as they've increased the levels. More to do with the sheer volume of peeps rather than anything else. Hopefully you won't really notice it too much next time you're out. We only had it kick in about four times all night last Sat (with me and Norm), and it was only just over anyhows. Will run you through it when you're out again (two weeks time????) and keep an eye on it for you....

Yaaa - You da man! I have some other tricks up my sleeve for July 24th

;-)

i went to the second week of the HK parties and i personally had an absolutely fantastic nite. me and my mate went with a few people we met from holland and they loved it as well. the very best parties will always result in a great nite but u cant just sit back and wait to be entertained, its also about ure attitude and the extent to which u want to have a good time.

i also mets loads of great people from around the world in el divino and they were lovin it as well. the attitude of people in a club never really bothers me, im there to have a good time and if they want to behave in a certain way, for example standing back and posing, then thats there problem and not mine.

what i will say is that based on previous HK nites in El Divnio and the Arches, the music seemed to be a wee bit like a greatest hits airing rather than a superb dj set with the odd well known gem thrown in. i also thought Mark Doyle's djing was a bit suspect at times. im not talking about the speakers or filters or anything like that just his mixing on occasion. but these are very small details in what was other wise a great nite, and while mixing is important i think it takes second place, with rockin the party the priority.

personal highlights of the nite were when matt collins played "dont change" by Erro and the airing of Solu music's "Fade", memories that will last forever.
Respect.

Here are the lyrics to a song called "Hooker With a Penis". Its by Tool off their 1996 album Enima.

Hooker With a Penis

I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a dope beastie-tee, nipple rings, and new tattoos that claimed that he was OGT, from '92, the first EP. and in between sips of coke he told me that he thought we were sellin' out, layin' down, suckin' up to the man.

Well now I've got some advice for you, little buddy. Before you point the finger you should know that I'm the man, and if I'm the man, then you're the man, and he's the man as well so you can point that f--kin' finger up your a-s.

All you know about me is what I've sold you, Dumb f--k. I sold out long before you ever heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, Dip s--t, and you bought one.

So I've got some Advice for you, little buddy. Before you point your finger You should know that I'm the man. If I'm the f--kin' man then you're the f--kin' man as well, So you can Point that f--kin' finger up your ass.

All you know about me is what I've sold you, Dumb f--k. I sold out long before you ever heard my name. I sold my soul to make a record, Dip s--t, And you bought one!

All you read and Wear or see and Hear on TV Is a product Begging for your Fata-s dirty Dollar So ... Shut up and Buy my new record Send more money F--k you, buddy.

OH HOW TRUE! SO TRUE! BEFORE YOU CALL SOMEONE ELSE A "SELLOUT" KNOW YOU ARE THE TRUE SELLOUT!

you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad.
