Heath Ledger

I'm not sure what you mean? Surely the difference is that he is famous, and he is recognised by millions of people. So it's newsworthy, as the news is appealing to many people.

I don't think he'll be treated any better than non-famous people. Surely it's the other way round? Did you not see the scrum outside his appartment by the pap? it was awful. So i disagree.

And if we follow your argument of what is newsworthy based on "real world affairs" i suppose that would mean not having any sport on the news either.

I mean, all those blokes kicking a ball around...how important is that to world events...

If what you mean is, "it doesn't interest you". Then don't watch it. Simple.

You missed the point entirely.

Your right it doesn't interest me to hear it on every single news channnel, radio station etc, you can't get away from it. He died, let him be without all the crap. He wasn't a world leader, he was an actor!

Okay, fair enough, i understand what you're saying. But I think still think his high profile justifies the interest. He was a global star after all - i think his passing would be inevitably marked the way it has. I don't think it's been out of proportion by what i saw last night, but by the end of the week who knows...

I kinda concur with DW.

I do find it a bit weird on forums (well this is the only one, i'm a oneforum kinda guy!) when someone dies & all these 'really sad:cry: hope his family are ok' posts start piling in from people who never knew him.

Strikes me as a bit dianadeathesque collective madness.

I think most people mean those things out of a general decency rather than a "wailing and knashing of teeth".

I just think it's good manners rather than anything else, to say something positive or polite about the deceased (as long as they weren't anything hideous like a killer or a Tory:lol:) especially on a thread dedicated to that person.

I think if you feel have to say something negative or derogative about that person then it's pretty bad form. I think it's better just to not comment.

Perhaps i'm old fashioned.

We discuss a lot of current events on here, not just dead celebrities.

Perhaps the tone is different (more civil?) in dead celebrity threads, with the exception of poor old Luciano Pavorotti.

I guess I started this one because I was a bit surprised by the thing. Of course I don't know the guy but I've liked his work (10 Things, Patriot, Brokeback... and those Dark Knight clips look mindblowing). I'm sad there won't be more of it, but obviously it's not going to affect my life in a noticeable way.

Actually, I take that back... I'd been thinking about getting some sleeping pills after slightly erratic sleep patterns since I got back from the States. Having second thoughts now!

'The Patriot' is quite possibly one of the worst films ever made.

Mel/Hollywood f*cking with history as only they can!?

why does everyone refer to 'bareback' mountain as a gay cowboy movie when it is quite obvious from the animals to which they tend that they are not cowboys but shepherds.

Btw surely the dead are the ones you SHOULD speak ill of as they are in no position to come round your house and thump you.

Bbtw, its the kids i feel sorry for too.

why comment at all, positive or negative? unless of course you are close to that person or they are close to your heart rather than a person who stars in your favourite movie.

I take on board that people out there get touched by things in a different way than others (I'm a self confessed bit of an arse when it comes to death and the like, probably because I have the view that things happen for a reason!) and I do agree with agents point about randoms giving there heartfelt sympathy to someone they don't know being weird and a bit wrong!

Morbyd - your just worried about the next person who spits in there hand thats why your sleep pattern is all over the place ;)

Completely agree (though I think Tories aren't immune from manners ;)).

At the end of the day The World Is One Decent Person Less. That makes me a tad upset, and I don't see what's wrong with that?

Whatever made that person 'decent' (to me), whether it be entertaining me for 90 minutes in A Knights Tale, or the ascent of a mountain (ref; Hillary), or anything, their life deserves to be celebrated and/or slightly mourned. I don't think anyone's pretending to be some long lost cousin twice removed or reaching for the razor blades, merely paying respects to someone who made a positive impact (however small) in their life.

The only thing I know about the chap is that he played a stirling support role (to Paul Bettanys show-stopping perfomance as Chaucer;)) in A Knights Tale (an ACE film ;)), and he used to get in scraps with the papparazzi.

For that I salute him.:D

RiP Sir Ulrich Von Richtenstien.

It's sad when anyone dies, famous or not. It's even sadder when they're young. I don't think you can ridicule people for thinking this is a pretty tragic thing to happen.

I don't know anything about Heath Ledger so I didn't post anything up - haven't seen any of his movies so I couldn't really have anything to relate to. But I'm still sad that a young guy has died. If someone like.... say... Amy Winehouse died (dunno why I chose her!) I would be e specially sad, as she is one of my favourite artists.

You don't have to specifically know someone to be sad about their death. I feel sad for the trillions of tragic things I see/hear about every day!

Can't get my head around the whole culture of idolising celebs.

Paps "en mass" outside his apartment trying to get a picture of the body bag being wheeled out so they can sell it to some trashy publication.

I blame the Heat magazine buying public... yes you!

My thoughts exactly - he wasnt all over the press like some celebs so I was just genuniely shocked when I heard - its not like we all saw it coming.

I thought it was pretty low that they showed that on TV, gave me shivers down my spine watching that at 7am in the morning

This sort of justifies some of my point!

and that's exactly the point i made earlier about Heath Ledger hardly being made to look like an icon or a deity, rather he's in for a rougher ride than the average guy in a same situation.

As typified by today's Sun... they've already found someone who saw him do cocaine (shock, horror!) at some point. Haven't read the article, but I'm sure it's got words like "tragic" over and over again.
