Have any of you been offered alternative accommodation after you've arrived?

hi all,

we've heard reports that people have been offered alternative, cheaper accommodation whilst being transported from the airport to the hotel they booked.

has this happened to any of you? we'd love to hear, please send me a pm. don't worry your identities will remain secret with me!

It happened to a girl met up with last year. She didn't book any accomodation beforehand and was offered 35 euro a night in August at bon sol...but she could only stay there for 3 nights and had to move on somewhere else after that.

This was in August, where the room prices are Not 35 euro a night.
 
Actually i was last year, when i arrived i got a taxi to where we were staying the Hotel Victoria (booked on this website) in Talamanca, on route the driver said he could sort me accommodation, a hotel on the beach if i wanted, i told him i already had somewhere booked, he said he could offer it a lot cheaper, i said gracias but no gracias.

Can you tell us why? Are the offers for real? Or is this a mad plot of some serial killer?

If offered these lower rates, is it safe to take them? what's the story?
 
hi kingpin, i can't really spill any beans, but thanks very much for the replies. it seems some hotels on the island are trying to pinch business away from others - not a very friendly thing to do on such a small island.

How can I find a good travel agent on Ibiza to help me find lodging on short notice? Someone who would be privy to last second openings? I'm going solo from Sug 9 to Aug 15 and could use a little help.

I've tried that. It seems to sometimes show availability that cannot be booked. For example- Don Quijote showed availability Aug 1 - Aug 16 last night (I tried to book it but it would not let me) but now it doesn't.

I've seen it happen where there appears to be availability at a hotel for only 4 nights but it cannot be booked 7 are required. That makes no sense. What happens to the 4 nights? Do they go unused?

I am frustrated with the booking policies and the apparent inaccuracy of this site. I want to deal with a live person.
 
i've had a word with james - who is very much alive - as i had the same problems myself when i tested the booking system. he'll get back to you.
 
hi swerve driver many hotels have a minimum cutoff period, which means that you can't book less than 7 days in advance. i have asked the booking system technicians to add in a proper message to this effect.
