Happy Birthday Morbyd

Aw gee... thanks guys :D

To all who mentioned the Fulham game:
(though if it had to be any team, I'm glad it was Fulham. Chris Coleman is an upstanding gentleman and the stiker McBride is a fellow Yank )

Mark, Russ - Re: that steak. The missus offered to make me dinner (potentially a rare but pleasant occasion!) but I turned her down as cooking is one of my favorite things so I'm looking forward to it. I'm thinking of making beef stroganoff :D

Grego - молодец! спасибо!

Stuie - it's 34 :?

Peppermint - please give your dog a big birthday hug from me

Sorry I haven't been around much today. I was late to the office because I had to go to the supermarket for various snack foods, cake and wine to bring to the office (as per Russian tradition). Then I had a couple of groups of co-workers come to "congratulate" me, drink the wine and eat the snacks.

And I've spent part of the day updating a website I made for a friend who is on an expedition all the way across Russia (if anyone's interested, check it out at www.moscow-chukotka.com/eng ). Oh, and I did some work too, for once

Oh, and Mikkak - ¡¡¡vamos Blake!! ;)
(sorry... he's one of my favorite players!)

you jumping on the bandwagon again morbyd, just cos he's won a few games in the last 6 months;) :p

;) jajaja, ;) I thougth about you the other day!!! I told myself guess John must be very happy!!! I was upset about Nadal loosing against Blake:cry: it seems that Blake and Nadal are going to have to meet again because Blake had won him twice in a row...
but I must say that I rather see winning Blake than Federer, I saw the match and I think Blake didn't use all his potential, I think he is a more nervous person. And I feel a special symphaty for him because his been through many problems with his health, and he keeps improving himself.
I don't dislike Federer I think his nice and he allways have nice words for Nadal, he even said that he won't be able to win Roland Garros while Nadal is playing, jeje but he allways win everything so is nice to see others winning him, wich is quite a surprise, well with Nadal is not the same   , now I just being naughty:D ;) and trying to forgett tha Blake beat Nadal.

I've been following James for several years. He's had a really rough ride of it with injuries, his father dying, etc. So no, it's not a bandwagon. It's just a huge amount of respect. I'm really glad it's finally all coming together for him. (and there's also the facts that he's a fellow African-American and studied at my alma mater) :p

I think Federer is a great player... maybe even the best ever... and he's gracious in victory and defeat. Nevertheless, I wish Blake could have held on and won that first set in the finals because then it might have all been different.

The thing I love about Blake is he's such a gentleman and a good sport. When his opponent makes a great shot, he applauds. When he lost to Federer, he smiled. Good man.

all my family was with Blake in the final!!!! well everybody but my sister Apo I think she could not forgive he beat Nadal:lol::lol:, nooo that is because she likes a lot Federer while he is not playing against Nadal.
The thing with tennis players from my point of view is that you have to be a very good player plus have the nerves, I mean being cold when you loose, I think that this is what makes the diference with one player and another one, Federer is a very good player AND when he looses if he ever does:lol::lol: he just don't even get nervous. So Blake was winning 4-1 but Federer just kept cold and he started to win and Blake dissapeared.
I don't follow a lot Blake but it was a very nice speech he did when they gave them the checkes...

Happy birthday American!

Blake does indeed seem like a nice bloke and he seems to have the beating of Nadal on hard courts :( Still lets wait for the clay court season to start.. Rome, Monte Carlo, Paris... :D

At least Alonso's flying the spanish flag well

i love winding you up john:p .

for me blake is a great technical player but i think him applauding opponents when they play a good shot is a load of bo11ocks. why do it? being a gent? whatever! play the game and win, think to yourself why you have lost the point not about applauding the other player.

blake has got the measure of nadal but rafa has some elements of his game that are quite weak (backhand isn't strong and even his forehand can be suspect). the most exciting thing about rafa is his ability to challenge feds. he leads him 3-1 i think and the was 2 sets and a break up in the 3rd set in the game feds eventually won. i love watch feds too.

blake will be a welcome addition to the top ten cos he's a shot player. roddick is sh1t, totally 1 dimensional, it frustrates me to watch him.:x :x

I think him applauding a player is genuine. He respects his opponent... perhaps too much which is why it's tough for him to beat people like Federer. Still, I think he's just a good sport, which is a lot better than what people like Lleyton Hewitt do.

Blake has Nadal figured out on hardcourt but I think he'd lose to Rafa on clay. He's improved his backhand a lot, which used to be his mortal weakness.

His style reminds me of Agassi, as opposed to Roddick who has modeled himself on Sampras but doesn't quite make it.

do you mean blake reminds you of agassi, or nadal:? :?.

i think blake is a great shot player and has the ability to hit loads of winners (unlike nadal). he is perhaps even a better shot maker than agassi, but agassi had/has the x-factor (a bit like nadal) that means the output equals more than the sum of the parts.

roddick is poops, dropping like a stone out of top ten (beaten by andy murray8O 8O 8O ) and has flunked in the last 2 grand slams.
