Gym junkie?

I've been going to the gym a lot more lately, as well as limiting my carb and fat intake significantly..

But it's seem to be totally screwing with my moods - most of the time I have LOADS more energy, bouncing out of bed in the morning and just wanting to race around everywhere I go.. but I've also noticed that following those periods of high energy I can feel really really low - like a mild come-down.

Has anyone experienced this as well? Not sure if it's the gym thing, the diet thing or a combination of both...

I'm just too busy to go to the gym every single day but I don't want to feel stressy, irritable and sad on the days I don't go either!

Mark- I've been doing the same thing, and funnily enough the same thing has been happening. I didn't go to the gym yesterday and I felt really low, yet today I went this morning and I'm really energetic.

It also seems to be screwing with my sleep patterns and givning me freaky dreams :?

Same!! I had a really nasty dream last night :( :( :(

OK, must be the exercise at fault - I guess we're just going to have to stick with it until we get used to it...?

moral = don't go to the gym

I feel great after the gym, and sometimes the morning after too.

But then today (I didn't go yesterday) I am very tired, or maybe this is just feeling normal :?

I love going to the gym, I have been bad lately and have been only doing it once a week but recently I spent about 10 days away from home and the hotel had a gym, so I went every morning and the difference was amazing, Im now goiung 3x a week and really enjoying it........I dunno what this has to do with your question though mark ;)

Same here but I would say it's the low carb intake. If it's too low your energy levels will suffer surely.

I had some freaky dreams last night as well but i'm putting that down to laying off the booze after a most ridiculous bender that started last Friday

I love it how mood swings and weird dreams are being put down to low carbs & no alchohol.......nothing to do with weekends of chemical self-abuse then? ;)

nope not in my case. ;)

To be honest Mark, i don't think it's anything to do with the gym.

I think it's the weather. Last week was gorgeous and look at this week - wet and cold again!

Try jumping on the sunbed for a quick pick-me-up

I usually suffer with weather changes and the best to deal with it is lots and lots of fresh fruit to stock up on vitamines (and healthier than sun-beds  )

What are you eating pre and post training? This may have effects on your moods? Plus are you eating enough to feed your muscles and energy? How much liquid do you take whilst training?

Agreed, a dietician friend said it was best to take multivits during winter (or periods of inclement weather  ) to make up from the vitamins you lose from lack of sunlight.

I'm ok with the odd dull day but after 3/4 days of seeing no sun i start feeling a bit down.

I don't think it's the weather, as I've been almost manic-hyperactive on rainy days over the last 3 weeks or so and happy as larry. My pseudo-scientific hypothesis is simple that I'm getting seratonin spikes as a result of the endorphins and having the same kind of come-downs that people have after doing pills.. absolutely no evidence to back that theory up though!

ps Sirens I usually eat a banana and maybe some toast before going to the gym :)

But weather changes it's not only rain-sun, there's temperature changes or pressure changes. I suffer spring asthenia: problems to sleep, waking up more tired, head hache and weird dreams. And feeling very uninspired all the time. Vits are the only way to deal with it, I used to take multivit tablets during spring but now I just increase my intake of fruits and it works

I know, but I have been really happy and energetic in the cold/rain/dark, and sad and grumpy on sunny days.. the link I can see is after the gym I am happy for about 36 hours, then after that I feel really crappy until I go to the gym again..
