Guardia Civil Stories!

after missing out one evening, a friend recalled the story the following day of the night I missed..

Following a few hours in the west end, the group had stopped in at the nearby KFC on their way home. One of the lads for whatever reason, thought it would be a great laugh if he flashed his tadger at the cashier taking his order..presumably as an alternative method of payment. Within moments, he was escorted out of the place by two guardia. The rest of the group waited on their food before heading outside, only to to find their foolish friend lying in a pool of his own blood.

Fair enough I'd say! It's all about respect...

a spanish friend asked me the other day if the English act like w**kers in their own back yard

I was going "um... er.... um"

and then last night I bought some weed off some spanish guy on a hill and when he clocked that my accent was English he started ranting about los putos ingleses culminating in a "but you seem ok though"

the key is communication and respect - learn some basic f**king Spanish and don't be a dick - it would prevent so many problems

Completely agree on the communication point.

We were waiting in the taxi queue outside Amnesia, a bit dishevelled after a decent session and by no means being loud and annoying. Security guy was standing just in front of us when someone walked behind us and accidentally kicked a glass/bottle that had been discarded and lying on the ground. It landed right next to the security guy and broke. The guy that done it had kept walking, so the security guy assumed we had smashed it, went absolutely ballistic. He didn't speak any English, we didn't speak any Spanish so trying to explain just wasn't happening. It was only when another British guy who could speak Spanish fluently intervened and told the guy what had happened that we left with our faces intact.

I was playing pool years ago with a guardian and the conversation turned to drugs and he said "its not their problem"..

Yeah was going to say it's worth remembering the Guardia are still partly militarised and don't tend to f*** around. They're doing an increasingly tough job though, so while violence isn't excusable, you can kind of see why it happens given their job, their organisation, and their history.

One year on the rocks between the sunset cafes and Kanya some idiot lit a sky lantern, which didn't properly take off and he left it to burn near some dry grass. I went to stamp it out and a very angry Guardia started asking if it was me. I managed to explain it wasn't and feigned getting angry alongside him, ranting about "idiotas Ingleses" shaking my head and pointing in the direction the guys had gone. This seemed to do the trick.

I think it's now illegal to film cops under Spanish laws passed last year - which might explain it.

Be warned:

The Citizens Security Law, popularly known as the gagging law and which came into force on 1 July 2015, prohibits “the unauthorised use of images of police officers that might jeopardise their or their family’s safety or that of protected facilities or police operations”

taken from one of the articles about the recent drug busts...

In the middle of the operation two zig-zagging tourists are getting closer to the house of the drug dealers. It gets them on the way and they don't know what they're going to find. "Take pictures of them! It's a good example of the tourism we have" says an agent to the photographers. "Of the tourism we have and the type of client of the ones we're now arresting" adds one of his colleagues. The tourists, two young men off their faces, dirty, with torn clothes, begin to understand the scene. They arrived with a half-smile but suddenly it disappears when they sense that the context isn't appropriate for jokes. Already with a face of circumstance they cross at lightly pace the cord of agents, one of whom carries by the belt to Malcolm, a dog trained in the detection of drugs.
