Yeah, it depends on the mate though. I have mates who wouldnt mind and i'd do it in a flash but others who i know wouldnt be impressed so i'd have to use best judgement and think "how much do i really like the girl".......or make sure he didnt find out

Well a mate of mine took a girl home from a party last weekend and one of our other mates had been there already..

It didn't happen for that reason - not because there would be problems with the first bloke but just psychologically he couldn't go there once he knew one of our mates had already..been there. Did that make any sense?

Depends on so many things, but if you think your mate has zero feelings for his ex then ask first (a very wise person once said to me 'shy bairns get nowt' ), but otherwise I don't believe in the whole 'one person one soulmate' thing enough to risk upsetting my mates for.
