Giving up smoking - Report in here!

I smoked my last 1/2 a cig on 29th May this year :D I will admit to having the odd drag on a mates cig the first few times I went out, but it was just to remind me how disgusting it was

I did it completely cold turkey as I dont believe in all those gimmics, I think they just make you think about smoking more 8O

I have given up twice before, once for 2 1/2 yrs (altho I still smoked the green stuff) and then I gave up about 2 yrs ago for 6months.

Im still not smoking now and I feel loads better for it :D

To all those still trying to get through the worse here are my tips to help you

If you fancy a fag, take a drag of a fag you know you dont enjoy, that will stop you wanting to smoke the rest of it and you'll remember why youre giving up in the first place.

Deffo avoid going out for the first 2 weeks, or dont put yourself in a position where you would smoke eg the pub or with loads of people who smoke.

Anyway good luck and the best thing to do is to take each day as it comes. I still dont say Ive given up forever, but I do try to see myself as a non smoker :D

Things to remember why youre giving up too....

You have your sense of smell and taste back, your clothes no longer smell of smoke. You appreciate your food a hell of a lot more, your skin and teeth get better and you physically feel healthier, plus you had more money to spend on going out, clothes, tunes and whatever else you fancy....so that cant be bad. Also your hangovers arent as bad :D

Good Luck folks :D

Allen Carr worked for me (18 months nicotine free) but if this isn't for you try hypnotherapy. Friends of mine swear it works.

Good luck all ;)

My friend had hypnotherapy and was back smoking within a couple of wks  I think we're both just hopeless lost causes

I'm proud of you all trying to give up the weed, here's my story (I'll try and keep it brief).......................

Hi, my names Les and I smoked for over 20 years! 8O I used to smoke 20 Regal per day then the last 5 years roll-yer-own Old Holburn and Liquorice (had to Google that for the spelling ) Papers (cue Clint Eastwood/Fist Full Of Dollars theme choon  ).

I was sitting in my house at my computer writing music with my pal when, all of a sudden, I went light headed and very dizzy and my left arm went completeley numb for about 10 mins. As my father died at the age of 37 with a heart attack, this scared the living daylights outta me. 8O Immediately organised a complete checkup at the docs and had blood samples sent away. In the 3 weeks waiting for the results, as human nature dictates, I was convinced that I was just about a gonner.

When I went to the docs for the results I was told that I was the fittest blokey they'd seen in months and come back in 5 years for another checkup. 8O I actually kicked my height when I left the surgery (I mean I physically really did!). I went straight home and decided that if I was this fit after all the years of smoking then I don't need the fags anymore. Tipped my baccy tin in the fire, found a pair of shorts and went out for a 5 mile run to celebrate (and nearly killing myself in the process  ).

For the next month every day when I got a craving for a smoke I put on a pair of shorts and ran the same 5 miles (wasn't working at the time). During that month I noticed that my urine was very dark as though all the toxins were flushing out of my bloodstream. After that first month I can honestly say I have never ever had a craving for smoking since, although I got addicted to running  That was around 1993, people smoking around me doesn't bother me at all, although I won't let anyone smoke in my car.

If my story inspires and helps just one of you to quit the weed, then I will be extremely happy. :D

.............and I'm proud to say I don't smoke. :P

day 2.

usual cravings at usual times. but getting through.

if it stays dry tonight, gonna go for a bit of a jog. 8)

tried again the other day, last a whopping 9 hours from waking up but crumbled when I found my Dad's stash from holiday. Im seriously considering going to the doctor to get patches or zyban. although, rumour has it they make you go to a once weekly quit smoking class 8O

don't knock it - people who attend the smoking cessation clinics have a much higher success rate than people who don't go ;)

Saying the 'same' five miles has ruined my 'now I'm in Madrid but I'm planning to run back the other way soon' alternative ending! For that I will never forgive you!

December 29th I decided to quit smoking... I'm doing really well.
BUT... lol, there's always a but... when I'm partying hard
I usually end up smoking. I guess it's a good thing that I've been trying to take it easy with the partying.

So I would say I'm down from one pack per day, to... I don't know. a pack every 2 weeks.

I started smoking again...

Its right tho, when youve done a good bit of cardio and youre all short of breath and knackered, the last thing you want is a ciggy :?

Try it :D

When I have a smoke even later on that NIGHT after a hard run, it sometimes makes me dizzy and I feel nauseaus.

Come the weekend though, hand them over with a huge glass of wine, and I'm all about it

It has been going absolutely peachy so far. The amazing thing is that I have not seeked helped from good old Joe Camel even when my folks have been driving me insane.

went out for a mere 2 mile stroll, managed non-stop for half a mile before my lungs were in danger of evicting themselves. heart rate was going bonkers (averaged 170 in 28mins).

woke up this morn with sore thighs, and sore feet.

me thinks its gonna take time b4 circulation is back to normal.

3days smoke free tho, with a bag of pistachios for company.

:D
