drive down the M25 and chuck it out of the window like normal people.

Haha, I was going to say similar.

Just tow it far enough away so that there's just as much probablilty that you dumped it there, as any other neighbours.

"Sorry mate, never seen it before in my life..."

Im sure there was an initiative up my way last year whereby old trees were collected and lain along country lanes as windbreaks and hedgerows for birds and wildlife to live among. My pal has an enormous Sainsbury's one (its facking HUGE!!) and we've been wondering what to do with it too  I can see hers sitting there till next Christmas (no joke!!)

Take it into your garden and burn it :)

You really don't know Rachel very well do you, or you'd know that is a very, very bad idea

I don't know her at all, but I refrained from suggesting douse it with petrol - in the interest of safety

The nice people in Wandsworth Council came and picked up my tree this morning from outside our house. Are you sure you Council dont do the same?

Otherwise, get up at 3am, and throw it out on the street but not too near your house. The council will eventually come and pick it up (which they should have done in the first place). But dont get caught!!!!

Yeah, thanks for the suggestion Stuie, but I don't want to end up with my hair on fire.

Stephen - I'm in Lambeth and we don't get that kind of service (despite paying twice as much council tax as you). I am on the borders of Wandsworth though, maybe I could drag it down the road in the dead of night and put it outside a Wandsworth resident's house.

There should be a park you can take it to nearby (thats what we do in Ealing) if you look at your local councils website it should say. It will then be recyled.

Im planting mine in the back yard. It was sawn off at thr trunk but we did that with one at my parents 10 years ago and its still in their back garden now growing 8O

Thank you for all your kind words of advice...I have now formulated a plan...

1. Strip Terry of his decorations
2. Prune the particularly large branches
3. Wearing protective tree handling gloves (aka "the oven gloves") lay Terry down on the floor
4. Using big plastic Council recycling sacks and gaffer tape close up the branches to recreate "the neat bundled tree I bought" (with special thanks to Stuie for his inspirational ideas).
5. With flatmate's help, get Terry down the stairs and into her car.
6. Drive to Council recycling site and dump the bastard.

Ta-da!!

This worked fine apart from when we got back from the council recycling site, someone had dumped their own tree right outside our front door!!

We've got a lovely plastic tree this year.
