Gatecrasher Acquires Spundae

Just read this today in URB magazine. Spundae, one of the biggest promoters in the US has been acquired by GC. Hopefully, that will mean a higher frequency of international DJs as well as more spectacular nights to look forward too. By the way, should we be expecting anything unique from GC???

Not my thing! Gatecrasher used to be quality, but has gone severely down hill (IMO).

They used to book quality such as Sander Kleinenberg and Nick Warren but the sad little 'cyberkids' stopped all that in favour of bringing in just trance dj's.

They do put on good parties and have done some fantastic events such as Gatecrasher @ the NEC. ( 15000 UNDER ONE ROOF ).

However they pulled out of both a UK festival and Ibiza last year, plus their two best residents have apparently left and doors are down. They were also forced (last year, I think) to go from weekly to monthly.

Things are starting to pick up ... changes in Promoters ... and BED being supposedly re fitted ... rumours of it becoming more of a "live" event type club ...
Something's in the pipe line, am sure of that ... but what, who knows!

US is a tough market to "crack", but they have definitely made the right move by acquiring a major powerhouse. They will keep the Spundae name over here citing reasons that people would not know the GC name.

I do not really buy that as the crowd that is into the "electronic music" scene knows the GC label. In addition, that very crowd is not nationalistic that they would boycott GC and hence hurt their sales. It's not like BP's acquisition of Amoco or ARCO. GC is playing it safe, which is fine. Any other groups that GC wish to attract will come if these events are "clean" and spectacular. Ministry should learn from them, as the night they put up in LA can be very humbly described as a disaster.
