Free Upgrades

anyone ever pulled off the free upgrade blag when flying long haul? wouldnt mind having a bash with something more original than "we're on honeymoon", we're flying virgin btw :)
 
yes I did, i got bumped up to uber-first class... that the bump ahead of first
(Executive first) from sydney to Vancouver last year... pure bliss... especially as that was on a super long haul flight!!!! ahhh...

i just said, ' is there anyway i can get bumped up to first class? and she said, well we don't have room in first class, but we have room in the class above that 8) :)

i think she was just feeling in a generous mood.. I try it every time I fly and its only happened once that they say yes.
 
I blagged my way into business class from London to Washington on BA a few years back. I'd been upgraded by a friend who worked for the airline on the first leg from Almaty to London, though, so it made the argument easier...
 
In the book "schott's original miscellany", there is a graphic of which you are supposed to make a stamp. It says "VIP CUSTOMER UPGRADE WHERE POSSIBLE" I'm assuming its a fairly standard thing across the airlines.

I've not tried it myself, because i've not been out of Europe for 2 years, but will definatly try it when I go on a long haul.

you're more likely to get upgraded if you have a higher tier ticket - higher tier tickets are essentially more expensive versions of the same economy ticket with more options like you can change them more easily or they were bought later.

If you got the cheapest ticket you could find with no options then you're probably at the bottom of the pile I'm afraid :?
 
One other benefit of my job (apart from hours on spotlight) is the company pays business for all flights.... though several US trips at 12Hours each way so far this year, they should...:twisted:

Prior to this, I've always smiled and asked.... 1 Yes, lots of NO's - the Yes was BA and I knew the steward...;)
 
If you ask at the desk if there are any upgrades due to deportees then that is a good one.

Governments will usually book business or first class seats for deportees to ensure they are not double booked and HAVE to leave the country on the specified flight.

The airlines then put them in economy though so if you ask this directly, the desk staff will rather upgrade you than lie about whether one is on board (usually)

indeedy... flights have been screwed up cos of yesterdays typhoon.

checked in early, dumped off baggage and can chill till boarding.

I ****ING LOVE THIS AIRPORT!:lol:
