 rugby for wimps always winds up the americans in my office :D
wimps!? Rugby players are tiny in comparison to American football players. You try lining up in front of a 300 pound guy and hitting him with all your force from a stationary position 1 meter apart... you'd want some padding too ;)

Now. This could mean one of two things. I hope smack is US for something randomly derogatory, or I'll have to assume it's a talk/take typo, which I must say I find quite worrying.

Not sure what "talk smack" means, but on the East Coast, smack is generally an injected chemical :?

LOL "talk smack" means to ruffle feathers, talk down the other team in a (I do it in a playful manner, but lots of my guy friends get downright mean lol) to get them agitated so the competition is more fun ;) Fun banter, like I'm the BOMB and you're NOT lol.

I think they put pads on the "American" football players because of the massive sizes they are, they would probably kill each other out there.

Thanks for the info Sara. As you know I am a 2%er. However, I will watch quite a bit of the game this Saturday. I really hope we clobber the Sooners as they have always been between us and the nationals.

By the way, that's how the stadium is going to look on Saturday. For our friend's across the salty pond the rivalry between my alma mater, The University of Texas at Austin and University of Oklahoma is called the Red River rivalry. It is sorta like Ashes. The game is always played in Dallas that is smack between Austin and Norman.

The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live long day.
The Eyes of Texas are upon you,
You can not get away.
Do not think you can escape them
At night or early in the morn-
The Eyes of Texas are upon you
'Till Gabriel blows his horn.

I cant believe the attendances you guys get at University level 8O

Fergie:

That's true. But then again, if you think about UT has a student body of ~ 50,000. OU has a student body of about 35,000. Most of the people from Oklahoma who go to uni end up at OU. Most Texans go to either UT, A&M or Texas Tech. UT and OU have one of the strongest football programs in the country, and the students have an immense degree of pride in their unis. Although I consider myself a 2%er and not a football fan, I would still watch UT play if I knew there was a game going on. You can take the man out of Texas, but you cannot take Texas out of the man.

By the way, that is our mascot, Bevo.

I live in a city that is relatively small, with a surrounding population probably around 400,00 people with two Universities. You've been here before havent you?

The Uni I went to (University of Aberdeen), held around 15,000 students with the other Uni probably around 10,000..pretty big considering the size of the place.

The sports facilities are just about non-existant :? No wonder (for such a developed country), we are so bad at sport :? ;)

Si! I have been to Aberdeen; for business purposes only, which is sad :( . I would like to go to the Scottish highlands for some photography sessions, and have a taste of some real haggis  . One of my friends from high school attended your uni or Mech. Eng. before transferring to Warwick.

You have to understand that a strong sports program in the US generates a lot of money for the university. This in turn allows the university to not only spend more on better sports facilities, but more importantly it gives a sh*t load of money towards Research and Development.
