For those that remember the original tunes...

What do yo think when a tune that you loved years ago get's remixed or sampled.. do you still prefer the original and find the remix has ruined the song.. or improved it?

Really depends on the quality of the remix to be honest.

I was seriously into old skool and the rave scene in the late eighties / early nineties, and much as I love the memories that come flooding back when I hear a classic, it will rarely fit into the kind of set that I play / listen to nowadays.

So if someone takes the essence of a great tue and doesn't pour melted cheese all over it then it can be a good thing.

Of course there are the classics that defy time - I played Alison Limerick, Where love lives the other week and it went down a storm :D

Totally agree with Jam Man. Some remixes update a track very well while others just ruin it.
Josh Wink's remake of Li'l Louis' French Kiss, How's Your Evening So Far, is an example of a track brought right up to date superbly. Also Hardfloor's remix of Yeke Yeke is way better than the original for me.

There probably won't be many people agree with me on this one but I never liked the remix of Cafe del Mar. Much preferred the original. Also not big into the version of Strings of Life that's getting hammered at the moment. Derek May's original should have been left well alone. One of THE most ground-breaking tracks ever.
Also Behrouz played a track with a Plastic Dreams (one of my all time favourites) sample in it in Space on June 6th but it was a bit of an anti climax for me when the original didn't kick in.

I will never tire of the original Plastic Dreams 8)
