For anyone who has flown recently.....

sh*t! you never tell me anything!!!

Anyway here is some info -

London Gatwick – If the flight you have booked leaves London Gatwick before 08.30 (GMT), you can check in for this flight the night before from 20:00. This will give you the opportunity to leave your baggage at the airport. You will be issued with a boarding pass so you can go straight to security for your flight the following morning.
Checking in online means that you may only take one piece of hand luggage with you that should be no bigger than 45x35x16cms. If you decide to take hold luggage with you, you must check in at the desks as normal where you will receive a new boarding card.

So not much help really

I've just found this:

Can I check in for my flight on the Internet?

Question
Do you offer online check in facilities on easyJet.com?

Answer
If you make a booking for a flight for which you can check in online, in your confirmation email you will be offered the option to print off your boarding pass (you can do this up to two hours before the scheduled departure of your flight). Once you have finished printing you have been checked in and you're ready to go! (But be careful, you can print your boarding pass only twice!) You may only carry hand baggage, though; if you decide to bring hold luggage you must check in as normal at the desks in the airport.

1) we don't have the option on our confirmation e-mail to check in online and 2) it's for hand luggage only so it's not much use to use  Thanks anyway :D

Exactly!! They are asking people to take more luggage .....and the security queue was longer then the check in queue! 8O I had to take my belt, shoes and jacket off and they even put your boarding pass through the x-ray machine which i usually just carry in my hand!

 I'd dreading all these extra checks cos I'm such an impatient missy at the airport, I can't relax til I've got thru check-in and been to Duty Free and got a glass of rose in my hand

i have a flight from Madrid to Ibiza on Air Europa. does anyone know if domestic flights in Spain have such draconian restrictions?

thanks!

I wouldn't really call them draconian, I don't spose the airlines are doing it cos they want to make it more difficult for people travelling

Different countries seem to have different rules in place so the only way to be sure is to check with your airline.

I might tidy it up a bit tho ;)

why don't you ask all the people who have posted posts not about "hand luggage in air travel", to delete their posts so as not to spoil the positivity of the thread.

it is easy to delete, all you do is click edit and then delete.

No, the draconian restrictions are only if you fly from the UK :D

Ah - we're going to Bournemouth for a few days at the end of the month with Ryanair

So now, you cannot take your bag on the plane but you have to pay to check luggage in!!!!

Bloody rip-off.............and the Ryanair dude has the cheek to say he's going to sue the government over the baggage restrictions
When they brought them in on safety grounds - this tube should have scrapped his check in luggage fee

I flew 2 weeks ago from Gatwick to Crete on Excel airlines and it wasnt too bad. Was more of a queue getting through security as would be expected. Your hand luggage has to be a certain size, they have a cardboard box as a guide for how big it should be. We had to take our shoes and belts off and put them through the scanner, then got searched like normal.

No make up or liquids, but are allowed to buy it once you get through. No checks or anything on my return either at Gatwick.

So pretty smooth and straight forward, would just recommend being slightly earlier as we did have to queue to get through security as there is still people forgetting the rules, getting their bags searched etc

so in summary, i'm not gonna be allowed my moisturiser, body lotion, hair spray and nail polish remover in my hand luggage??8O
