esp with Easyjet but I'd assume most airlines are similar.

Now that hand luggage is restricted to one really small piece and no liquids/toiletries etc does it mean that your luggage allowance weight is increased to allow for this??

What? 8O 8O
Aren't you allowed anymore to take your case as a handluggage? 8O 8O 8O

when coming back from Ireland we had to check all our stuff in. Normally when we go ireland for a short break we only bring hand luggage and we dont bring a suitcase, but due to what was happening we did. Anyway, when checking in we were charged extra, Rynair said we did not request luggage to be checked in when we booked, which we never, we simply had to check the stuff in...

I'd like to complain but cant be asked

From Easyjet:

One piece of hand baggage only, with maximum dimensions: 45x35x16cm (including wheels, handles, straps etc)
No liquids of any type are permitted through the airport security search point. The definition of liquids is broad and includes toothpaste, hair gel, drinks, soups, syrups, perfume, deodorant, shaving foam, and aerosols

Easyjet have always had 20kg suitcase allowance but they've allowed you to take as much in your hand luggage as you want, now that hand luggage is restricted to basically the size of a handbag and it can't include any toiletries etc I'm hoping that this weight is increased to your suitcase allowance :?

Why is it? Why is toothpaste dangerous? 8O 8O

They've banned all liquids from flights after that terror plot they foiled :?

Which terro plot related to toothpaste? 8O

No it was liquids in general - they were going to smuggle bomb making equipment into stuff like baby food bottles so that's why they've banned ALL liquids and related stuff from hand luggage - you can't even take a lip gloss on with you 8O

I thought all this had been resolved now and you were allowed hand luggage on as normal?

Like Jon said, when we went to Ireland, all we were allowed on was our wallets and travel documents, in a plastic bag. I think that's changed now and you are allowed hand baggage on. I'm not sure how big though, does anyone know if it's gone back to the old measurements or are there new smaller measurements?

I'm planning on taking a small carry-case on wheels when I go, hopefully I wont have to check it in.

Sar - remember if you are checking in any baggage on Easyjet you have to book and pay for it in advance, otherwise you get charged a tenner at the airport.

The size of hand luggage now is MUCH smaller than before plus you can't take any toiletries etc in your hand luggage so you'll have to check your suitcase in

That's Ryanair you pay for checking luggage in, Easyjet is still free for suitcases.

Grrr how annoying!! I'l double check coz we're flying on BA - I hate having to check luggage in when you dont have a big bag! :x

It's the liquids/toiletries that will be the problem - they're banned on all flights at the mo so even if you squeezed your stuff into a tiny little bag for hand luggage you wouldn't be able to take any toiletries and you might be a bit sweaty/smelly after a few days  ;)
